This position is located at the Maintenance Support Division, which is part of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department aboard Naval Support Activity Mid-South, Millington, TN. Incumbents are under direct supervision of the Maintenance Director. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of facilities and maintenance duties in support of the Naval Support Activity Mid-South. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Knowledge of safe and efficient operating techniques of various large equipment and power tools: (Operates a variety of power equipment to include, but not limited to: posthole diggers, blowers, weed eaters, power washers, mowers, box trucks with lift gate, etc.) Ability to operate and control riding mowers on slopes which requires constant attention to working space and environment. Ability to safely operate equipment around buildings, walls, trees, fence lines, banks and hillsides, trenches, curbs, rocks and other visible obstacles. Ability to operate various controls and levers to maneuver equipment and lift/lower, adjust, engage/disengage components or attached devices. Knowledge and skill using hand tools and other equipment such as: shovels, rakes, hammers, bars, saws, axes, loppers, wrenches, brushes, brooms, ladders, banding equipment, and pallet jacks. Ability to complete assignments involving several tasks by following detailed processes which require remembering directions, sequences, following simple drawings, etc. Ability to follow general instructions or read simple drawings to perform tasks requiring significant manual skill. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
