Emergency Room Adult Psychiatrist (Weekend Position) – San Antonio, Texas

University Health is seeking a full-time Adult Psychiatrist to join our Emergency Department team at University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. This position offers the opportunity to practice in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while caring for patients with acute and severe behavioral health needs.

The ideal candidate is a compassionate and clinically strong psychiatrist who thrives in a dynamic emergency department setting and values interdisciplinary collaboration, education, and high-quality patient care.

Position Highlights

• Full-time weekend schedule consisting of three 12-hour shifts: Saturday/Sunday/Monday
• Additional 4 hours of flexible administrative time weekly for:
• Clinical documentation completion
• Care team hand-off communication
• Meetings and in-service activities
• Academic and operational collaboration
• No on-call responsibilities outside scheduled shifts
• Academic environment with opportunities for teaching and mentorship

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage adult patients presenting with acute psychiatric and behavioral health conditions in the emergency department
• Assess patients for diagnosis, stabilization, treatment recommendations, and appropriate next level of care
• Collaborate closely with emergency medicine physicians, psychiatric providers, nursing staff, care coordination teams, residents, fellows, and student learners
• Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and disposition decisions
• Complete documentation in a timely and accurate manner
• Contribute to the education of medical students, residents, fellows, and psychiatric nurse practitioner students

Qualifications

• Board-certified or board-eligible in Adult Psychiatry
• Preference for candidates with at least two years of post-graduate clinical practice experience
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced clinical environment
• Commitment to patient-centered, team-based care
