Assistant Assigned Counsel Administrator

Position Overview Wayne County's Indigent Defense Services Department (IDSD) is developing a staff of dedicated professionals committed to excellence in criminal defense representation at the trial court level and equal access to justice. The Assistant Assign Coordinator will assist the Director and Assigned Counsel Administrator in the facilitation of counsel assignment in felony cases and provide the resources necessary for effective representation. Responsibilities Support the Director and Assigned Counsel Administrator in developing and coordinating compliance plans and cost analysis for MIDC standards and best practices. Supervise staff members who perform case assignment, attorney qualification, and performance review (population expected to grow). Assist in creating a cost‑effective, automated, and fair case assignment process as outlined in the Wayne County Ordinance. Supervise attorney qualification and performance review processes. Monitor caseloads and ensure compliance with internal and external requirements. Supervise the attorney payment system in conjunction with fiscal grant staff. Lead the review for accuracy of attorney requests for payment and supervise staff that validates payments, including voucher and invoice approvals. Research and develop holistic defense resources for private assigned counsel based on national best practices. Attend County Commission and Committee meetings. Prepare reports, policies, and procedures for internal and external stakeholders. Consult on budgeting issues and concerns. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Licensed attorney in good standing in the State of Michigan. Minimum of 5 years of criminal law practice, including at least 3 years at the felony trial level. Preferred: Experience as a criminal defense attorney, supervising professional and support staff, managing budgets and personnel, and proficiency in public policy development and stakeholder communication within the criminal justice system. #J-18808-Ljbffr Wayne County, MI
