Youth Group Leader (Out-of-School Time Program)

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
Schedule: Part-Time | Monday-Friday | Typical shifts between 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM (schedule may vary based on program needs)
Work Location: In Person

As a Youth Group Leader, you will work directly with elementary and middle school students in a safe, engaging, and supportive environment. Position Summary

The Youth Group Leader is responsible for providing a safe, structured, and engaging out-of-school-time experience for elementary and middle school youth. The Youth Group Leader facilitates enrichment activities, encourages positive youth development, supports academic growth, and serves as a positive role model for participants.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesYouth Engagement & Mentorship

• Lead and supervise a group of approximately 11-15 elementary or middle school students.
• Create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment where every participant feels valued and respected.
• Build positive relationships with youth and families.
• Serve as a mentor and positive role model while encouraging confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and leadership.
• Promote positive behavior and support social-emotional growth.

Program Facilitation

Plan and facilitate engaging activities focused on:

• STEM and Innovation
• Arts and Creative Expression
• Literacy and Academic Enrichment
• Health, Wellness, and Recreation
• Career Exploration
• Leadership Development
• Team Building
• Social-Emotional Learning

Academic Support & Skill Building

• Assist with homework support and educational activities.
• Facilitate workshops, projects, and group discussions designed to promote learning and personal growth.
• Implement evidence-based curricula including Positive Action and Ready Set Work.
• Encourage youth participation and help students identify their interests, talents, and future goals.
• Support the development of communication, problem-solving, leadership, and teamwork skills.

Program Operations

• Maintain accurate attendance records and program documentation.
• Ensure participant safety and compliance with program policies and procedures.
• Assist with organizing, setting up, and maintaining program spaces.
• Maintain clean, safe, and welcoming learning environments.
• Collaborate with coworkers to deliver high-quality programming.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

 

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with youth in schools, after-school programs, camps, recreation programs, sports programs, childcare settings, mentoring programs, or community-based organizations.
• Demonstrated ability to positively engage, supervise, and support children and adolescents.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
• Dependable, organized, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to pass all required background clearances and health requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in after-school programs, summer camps, recreation programs, educational settings, youth organizations, mentoring programs, or childcare environments.
• Experience facilitating activities, workshops, or group programming for children and adolescents.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Working Conditions

This position primarily operates in school-based and community settings and requires active engagement with youth throughout program hours.Occasional participation in field trips, family engagement events, community activities, staff trainings, and program celebrations may be required.The role may involve standing, walking, lifting program materials, and participating in recreational activities alongside students.
