Responsibilities:
Draw blood samples from patients of all ages, including pediatric and geriatric populations, adhering to established safety and procedural standards.
Prepare collected specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring proper labeling, documentation, and handling to maintain specimen integrity.
Explain procedures to patients clearly and compassionately, creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence.
Maintain accurate records of collections, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and regulatory requirements.
Follow all safety protocols to maintain a safe and professional environment for patients and staff.
Demonstrate leadership behaviors by focusing on process excellence, accuracy, and confidentiality, contributing positively to team efforts.
Perform specimen processing duties as needed under the supervision of the area supervisor, supporting laboratory operations efficiently.
Promote a positive, professional image to patients, clients, and colleagues through excellent customer service and communication skills.
Required Skills:
Minimum of 6 months of phlebotomy experience, with proven proficiency in blood collection techniques, including pediatric and geriatric draws.
Exceptional phlebotomy skills with a keen eye for detail to ensure error-free sample collection.
Strong customer service skills, with the ability to explain procedures and reassure patients effectively.
Excellent data entry and keyboarding skills to accurately record specimen information.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, managing time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of safety and confidentiality standards to protect patient information and uphold regulatory compliance.
Basic understanding of laboratory processes and specimen handling protocols.
Nice to Have Skills:
Certification in phlebotomy preferred, especially in regions where required by state law (e.g., California, Nevada, Washington).
Medical assisting or paramedic training is a plus.
Experience working in retail or service environments recognized as beneficial for patient interaction.
Familiarity with laboratory information systems and medical terminology.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Medical assistant, paramedic training, or similar healthcare education preferred.
At least 6 months of hands-on phlebotomy experience required; over one year preferred for more advanced responsibilities.
Other Requirements:
Reliable transportation to and from the work site, as public transportation may not be sufficient for timely arrival.
Flexibility to work scheduled shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
Must be punctual, dependable, and available for entire shifts without excessive absenteeism or tardiness.
Physical ability to stand for extended periods, perform specimen collection, and handle equipment safely.
Certifications as required in specific states (such as phlebotomy license/certification).
Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sensitivity to patient needs.
