LAB TECHNICIAN I

Responsibilities Conduct wet chemistry analysis of water and wastewater for physical and chemical parameters, including BOD, COD, TSS, ammonia, nitrogen, phosphorus, pH, turbidity, hardness, conductivity, chlorine, alkalinity, and fluoride. Perform microbiological analysis using methods such as heterotrophic plate count, fecal coliform, total coliform, and other techniques. Accurately prepare and file required forms, documents, and lab bench sheets; enter data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Use and operate various instrument software packages to perform required duties. Perform tasks in strict adherence to regulatory guidelines, laboratory certification requirements, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Operate, calibrate, and perform general maintenance on lab equipment such as instruments, probes, meters, pumps, ovens, and incubators. Follow good chemical hygiene practices; prepare standards, reagents, media, and solutions with proper tracking and labeling procedures. Adhere to laboratory and analysis quality‑control procedures in compliance with the Laboratory Certification Program and Quality Assurance Plan; promptly notify management of deviations. Assist with sample collection, preservation, and receiving, ensuring proper sampling techniques and record‑keeping requirements. Maintain inventory of laboratory expendables and assist in ordering supplies. Maintain and wash laboratory glassware and other required materials; practice safe handling of chemicals and lab samples; dispose of waste in environmentally safe and approved ways. Perform other related duties as required. Minimum Training and Experience Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field, or an Associate degree in the same fields, with one to two years of experience in a chemical or biological laboratory; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
