Produce ClerkThe Produce Clerk primarily cuts, portions and/or weighs fresh produce, places it in the appropriate container and labels it to be placed on display for sale.Essential duties and responsibilities include:Cut, weigh and package various produce items such as papaya, melons, pineapples, etc.Portion out, weigh and package various produce items such as apples, beans, etc.Place produce in various containers such as trays wrapped with plastic, plastic bags with twist ties or clear plastic containers with lids for proper displayStock and rotate department products to ensure freshness and date controlOperate department equipment and tools such as sharp knives, scales, and wrapping deviceRetrieve, load and unload products and merchandise onto cart to move from back storage room to prep roomRetrieve, load and unload products and merchandise onto cart to move from prep room to displaysProvide attention to customer needs; greet, assist and thank customers in a prompt, courteous and friendly manner.Keep work area clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards; Maintain awareness of floor conditions; ensure all safety measures are taken to protect customers, vendors and employeesReport all accidents promptly to manager on dutyPromptly report maintenance and safety issues to manager on dutyAttend and participate in departmental and store meetingsMaintain punctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policiesPerform other work-related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the positionSecondary duties and responsibilities may include:May perform general cleaning duties such as mopping and sweepingAssist with the unloading of delivery trucksAssist manager on duty with any area throughout the store when needed or scheduledMinimum requirements include:High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; minimum of 18 years of ageAbility to properly use department equipment such as knives, wrapping device, scale, etc. to accomplish the essential duties of the positionPossess adequate knife handling skills and knife speedGood interpersonal skillsAbility to read and speak English and Spanish preferredAbility to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferredAbility to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations with managers, customers (both internal and external) and the general publicTakes responsibility for own actionsAbility to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekendsAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram formBasic mathematical skills; ability to use and understand weights and measuresPhysical demands include:Stand in one place for extended periods of timeWalkFeel, use fingers and handsReach with hands and armsUse repetitive motion with hands and armsUse sense of smellStoop or bend at the waistTalk and hearClose vision, have eye-hand coordination and peripheral visionCarry, lift and/or move departmental products and merchandisePush and pull carts of departmental products and merchandiseTwist back and neckClimb ladder or step stoolSitBalanceKneel, crouch or bend at the knees
