Hundreds of Temporary Positions Available The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking employees for hundreds of temporary positions for the 13-Day New York State Fair. The annual State Fair, held for 13 days from August 26, 2026, to September 7, 2026, preserves and enhances the agricultural legacy of the State of New York and promotes current and future agricultural awareness. The State Fair hosts statewide competitions in the breeding and showing of horses and livestock, and the production of quality wine, vegetables, fruit, honey, maple syrup, flowers, forage, and grain. Likewise, the Fair also hosts competitions for the youth of New York State that include horses, livestock, horticulture, robotics, dogs, sports, talent, and general economics. Join our team for the 2026 Great New York State Fair! Temporary staff are essential to making the Fair a success. These dynamic, hands‑on roles often involve working outdoors in various weather conditions, with full‑time scheduling options available depending on the department. Agriculture Departments include poultry, rabbits, beef cattle, dairy cattle, and horses. Duties range from cleaning the barns to tending to the animals. Guest Relations / Ticket Takers Responsible for welcoming guests, providing information about facilities, programs, and services. Ticket Takers review and scan tickets at entry points. Safety Assist guests while following all safety protocols. A security license is not a requirement. Bag Check – 8‑Hour Security Course Guard entry points, verify visitor credentials, and check bags at entry points. Eligibility: Completion certificate of 8‑hour security course Unexpired security guard license Active military member Active or retired police officer Chevy Security – Licensed Security Guard Perform security services at Chevy Court and Suburban Park concert locations. Eligibility: 16‑hour New York State Security Guard License Active military member Active or retired police officer Tram Conductor Assist passengers on and off trams that run along the perimeter of the Fairgrounds. Tram Driver Safely transport passengers on a truck‑pulled wagon to and from tram stops around the Fairgrounds. Eligibility: CDL Class B License with a "P" Endorsement. Sensory Room Monitor and assist guests in inclusive sensory programming areas, including the calming sensory room/cottage and outdoor active sensory area. Must be professional and warmly welcome guests who may have sensory‑processing differences, autism, PTSD, or other conditions. State Fair Merchandise Truck Operate POS system, accurately calculate and collect payments, maintain inventory, and keep merchandise clean, organized, and fully stocked. Must be customer‑focused and provide a positive experience. Camping Assisted with campground operations, ensuring guests have proper credentials, verifying access, and providing directions. Must be professional, approachable, and helpful. Potato Booth Bake potatoes, prepare toppings, maintain a clean environment, provide customer service, and handle cash transactions using a cash register. Events Manage logistics of special events, greet and host entertainment, speak to large crowds, and complete paperwork to close out events. The Department is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
