The Engineer III performs advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on complex systems throughout Morongo Casino Resort & Spa. This position is responsible for ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, as well as specialized equipment that supports daily operations. The Engineer III serves as a technical expert within the department, providing mentorship, performing skilled repairs, and ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and operational standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Delivers friendly, prompt, and professional service to all guests and team members while supporting a safe and welcoming environment.
- Demonstrates proficiency in electrical systems, including troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing various electrical components using tools such as multi-meters. Assists leadership with planning and executing electrical installations and repairs.
- Applies general knowledge of plumbing systems and fixtures to identify issues, make necessary repairs, and support new plumbing installations or projects under the guidance of leadership.
- Provides general maintenance and service to HVAC systems, including overseeing installations, conducting repairs, and performing preventative maintenance to maintain environmental control and efficiency.
- Performs a wide range of maintenance tasks essential to keeping the property safe, functional, and guest-ready on a daily basis.
- Develops and maintains a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all areas of the property, including guest rooms.
- Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs or replaces faulty components in mechanical systems including heating and air units, plumbing fixtures, water heaters, refrigerators, compressors, and related equipment. Replaces air and water filters, including HEPA filters, across applicable systems.
- Creates detailed and accurate electrical drawings; collaborates with department leadership to confirm technical details and secure approvals for project execution.
- Troubleshoots existing electrical systems using engineering principles to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Conducts failure investigations and root cause analyses to support corrective and preventative maintenance actions; prepares detailed documentation and reports.
- Participates in structured engineering and maintenance protocols, including Electrical Reviews (ERs), Pre-Project Reviews (PPRs), and post-project assessments, as required.
- Responds promptly to emergency maintenance requests and service calls, utilizing critical thinking to resolve urgent issues.
- Cleans and maintains the facilities shop, service-level offices, and all designated equipment rooms to ensure safety and organization.
- Operates lifts, tools, and maintenance vehicles safely and efficiently as required to perform job duties. Adheres to all safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, harnesses, ear and eye protection, safety vests, and appropriate footwear. Maintains awareness of Lock Out/Tag Out procedures, MSDS guidelines, bloodborne pathogen protocols, and other safety standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the maintenance and engineering operations of the property.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance or support to other team members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- To successfully perform in this role, an individual must be capable of fulfilling each essential duty with competence and reliability. The qualifications outlined below reflect the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for effective performance.
- A minimum of two years of related experience and/or training is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience may be considered. Candidates should have the ability to read, interpret, and comprehend written instructions, technical documents, and safety materials. Strong written communication skills are also required for preparing reports and correspondence.
- Previous experience in general maintenance, with a focus on electrical and mechanical systems, is strongly preferred. A foundational understanding of maintenance tools, chemical safety, basic plumbing, HVAC systems, electrical work, lifts, and assorted equipment is desirable. The ability to safely and effectively operate both hand and power tools, as well as emergency response equipment, is essential.
- Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to follow instructions are critical. Candidates must be able to communicate clearly and professionally using handheld radios and respond promptly and appropriately in emergency situations.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Technical certification or vocational training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems required.
- Associate’s degree in a related technical field preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in engineering, facilities maintenance, or skilled trades required.
- Advanced knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical operations.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues and perform major repairs with minimal supervision.
- Experience working with building automation systems (BAS) and computerized maintenance systems (CMMS).
- Prior experience in a large-scale facility such as a hotel, resort, casino, or hospital strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of safety codes, regulatory compliance, and preventive maintenance standards.
- Ability to mentor junior staff and lead small projects or specialized assignments as needed.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have successfully completed a background check and obtained a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency, as required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must be able to read and interpret documents in English, such as instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, management, and guests.

- Manual Dexterity: Regularly uses hands and fingers to operate hand and power tools, testing equipment, and control systems; must be capable of making precise mechanical adjustments and repairs.
- Mobility: Frequently walks, climbs ladders, bends, kneels, and crawls in mechanical areas, rooftops, basements, and tight spaces; must be able to access various facility areas and perform physical labor in challenging environments.
- Stationary Work: Occasionally remains seated for short periods to complete documentation, review maintenance schedules, or use computerized maintenance systems.
- Tool Operation: Regular use of electrical testers, HVAC tools, plumbing and mechanical repair equipment, ladders, lifts, and maintenance tracking software; responsible for safe and effective tool operation.
- Visual Acuity: Requires near and far vision to read gauges, blueprints, technical manuals, and electronic displays; must be able to detect issues with equipment or systems and evaluate safety concerns.
- Working Conditions: Routinely works indoors and outdoors, including rooftops, mechanical rooms, and facility infrastructure areas; exposed to loud noise, high/low temperatures, dust, moving machinery, hazardous materials, and a smoking environment in or near the casino and guest areas.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions.
WORKING HOURS:
Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
