Senior Transportation Planner

Compensation: $120,000 - $170,000 / year Department: Transportation Location: Albuquerque, NM Unmatched Comp Time Policy: Hours worked over 40 in a week are paid at the usual hourly rate or can be banked as additional PTO. We are seeking a Senior Transportation Planner with experience in transportation planning to support and help lead active transportation, trail, and multimodal projects across Utah and the Intermountain West. This role is ideal for a planner who enjoys both technical and planning-level work, and who is passionate about improving mobility, connectivity, and quality of life through trails, shared-use paths, and complete streets. Core Responsibilities Lead and support the planning and development of active transportation facilities, including shared-use paths, trails, bike lanes, and complete streets Manage corridor studies, concept studies, active transportation plans, feasibility studies, and NEPA/PEL-related planning efforts Prepare and review technical memoranda, reports, and planning documents for transportation and trail projects Lead and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including traffic, drainage, roadway, structures, utilities, and right-of-way Lead project management activities, including scope, schedule, budget, and quality control Analyze transportation, land use, and mobility data to inform planning recommendations Assist with and play a key role in public and stakeholder engagement efforts, including meetings, workshops, and presentations Communicate technical information clearly through strong written deliverables and verbal presentations Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment Lead business development and client relationship efforts as appropriate Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field (required) 15+ years of experience in transportation planning and/or multimodal project development Experience managing active transportation, trails, or multimodal projects Strong understanding of current national and local guidelines, particularly for bicycle and pedestrian facilities Proficiency in GIS and/or transportation planning and analysis tools Experience preparing and reviewing technical reports, studies, and planning documentation Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to clients, stakeholders, and public audiences Ability to work across multiple phases of planning projects Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment Preferred Qualifications Experience with trail planning and design, including alignment development and user experience considerations Background in corridor planning, active transportation plans, or multimodal network development Experience working with state DOTs, MPOs, and/or local agencies Interest in innovative mobility solutions and emerging best practices in active transportation Experience supporting public involvement and stakeholder coordinationExperience mentoring junior staff Benefits Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance Generous paid time off 401(k): 50% match of contribution up to 6% Professional development opportunities including in-house training Paid professional organization membership and professional licensure For more information, visit our website at Equal Opportunity Employer EEO — All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other protected characteristic.
