Associate Director of Development

Classification: Administrator I Hours: Full-time / 40 hours per week FLSA: Exempt Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,834 to $6,667* mo. *CSUMB provides pay scales representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for this position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, and CSU systemwide pay for comparable jobs. Priority Screening Date: June 7, 2026 Recruitment Status: Open Until Filled PURPOSE Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for University Advancement, the Associate Director of Development engages, cultivates, solicits, and stewards alumni, parents, friends, corporate and foundations who have the capacity to make either major direct or planned gifts to CSU Monterey Bay. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Build and manage a portfolio of 75-125 prospective donors for identified CSU Monterey Bay fundraising objectives: identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship; conduct 12 to 15 field contacts per month; move prospective donors through the traditional cultivation, solicitation and stewardship cycle, recording actions in a moves management system. Support the portfolios of assigned academic colleges or programs, working closely with the Dean, faculty, director and staff. Support the Annual Gift program with assigned prospects. Assist the Associate Vice President for University Development in the preparation and implementation of a development strategic plan. Assist the entire University Development Office in its functions and coordination of activities, including coordination with other university offices. Exercise significant responsibility for formulating, implementing, and administering programs, policies, and procedures in support of University Advancement objectives; exercise discretion and independent judgment in carrying out assigned responsibilities beyond merely conforming to established policies and procedures; may exercise authority related to hiring, transfer, assignment, evaluation, promotion, discipline, and reward of employees. Participate in the activities of committees and organizations to ensure that appropriate development policies, procedures and safeguards exist and function in the best interest of the University. Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: fundraising techniques, proposal development, prospect identification, prospect research and cultivation, fund solicitation, donor recognition and stewardship; thorough knowledge of modern management and administrative techniques related to development and implementation of appropriate work planning, scheduling and coordination in a team environment to meet changing organizational objectives. Ability to: rapidly become familiar with university‑wide program areas; strong problem‑solving and conflict resolution skills; possess excellent organizational and planning skills with superior attention to detail; demonstrate maturity and unquestionable integrity; work and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a broad range of internal and external constituents; maintain confidential information; navigate sensitive situations; establish and maintain effective working relationships; exercise independent judgment and discretion in administering programs, policies, and personnel‑related matters. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Demonstrated ability to cultivate and solicit gifts or close comparable sales. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively. Willingness and ability to travel to meet with donors; occasional evening and weekend work required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Three (3) years of additional related annual fund, major or principal gift experience; demonstrated success in philanthropic community engagement. Knowledge of the local philanthropic community. Experience working in higher education. Technical fluency with Microsoft Office Professional Suite, Raiser's Edge, and Google mail and calendaring programs. Must possess and maintain a valid driving license in California, pass Defensive Training Class, and be insurable under the university's liability coverage. Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, on a regular basis. PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT Office environment with standard equipment and tasks; position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods; may require travel between campus offices and off‑campus locations.
