Preferred Description: The Labor and Delivery Nurse provides care to patients during labor and delivery. This position involves assessing and monitoring patients throughout the labor process. The nurse will assist in deliveries and provide support to new mothers post-delivery. Skills required include the administration of medications and monitoring fetal heart rates. Experience with various labor interventions and emergency procedures is essential. The nurse will educate parents on newborn care and breastfeeding support. Strong communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams are important. The unit handles a variety of patient diagnoses, including active labor and cesarean deliveries. Special procedures may include non-stress tests and antepartum monitoring. Candidates should be prepared for a fast-paced environment with a focus on patient care. Knowledge of infection control and safety protocols is necessary. The nurse will participate in discharge teaching and care coordination.
