Laboratory assistant

Position Summary The Shamblin lab seeks laboratory assistants for wildlife and fisheries sample processing and DNA extractions for population genetic analyses. This position will assist graduate students and the lab manager with sample tracking, processing of blood, eggshell, skin, fin clips, and swab samples, and DNA extractions for genotyping and sequencing for fish and wildlife species of conservation concern. It will also assist in sample archiving and general laboratory maintenance. Responsibilities Sample tracking and processing for DNA extractions (60%) DNA extractions and sample archiving (25%) Dish washing and general lab maintenance (15%) Qualifications Pursuing a BS degree in biology, genetics, marine science, or wildlife/fisheries is preferred. Previous laboratory experience is a plus, but not necessary. Ability to work independently or in groups, strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Physical Demands This position is laboratory based. Candidates should be able to sit or stand at the bench for extended periods and occasionally lift boxes up to 40 pounds.
