Fall Senior Group Leader - After School - PS219 (56491)
University Settlement
University Settlement partners with 40,000 New Yorkers on the Lower East Side and in Brooklyn every year to build on their strengths as they achieve healthy, stable, and remarkable lives. For over 135 years, we’ve collaborated with our neighbors to pioneer highly effective programs that fight poverty and systemic inequality. Established in 1886 as the first Settlement House in the United States, we bring the values of that movement into the 21st century by meeting New Yorkers where they live, listening deeply to all perspectives, engaging with every individual holistically, and creating space for people to organize. Joining together with our neighbors to advocate for justice and equality, we help build community strength. We work with New Yorkers of all ages, infusing a commitment to civic engagement, equity, and communal action into each of our programs—including early childhood education, mental health and wellness, benefits assistance and eviction prevention, adult literacy and education, healthy aging, community and recreation centers, performing and visual arts, and youth development. Responsibilities In consultation with and approval from the DYCD program Director, support group leaders and program aides in the assigned unit by providing classroom assistance, assisting with participant behavior issues, supporting classroom facilitation of activities, and acting as a liaison between group leaders and program management. Maintain positive, cooperative working relationships with the host school, parents, staff, and children. Strictly adhere to University Settlement policies and procedures, and Department of Health guidelines. Maintain professional standards of conduct, holding in strict confidentiality employee and youth information and program files. Supervise arrival, snack, and dismissal of the assigned unit. Maintain an inventory of program supplies and, with Director approval, order supplies. Other duties, including Group Leader responsibilities (see below), as assigned by the Director. Group Leader Responsibilities Design and implement innovative, quality educational and recreational activities for youth participants. Actively participate in program‑wide or division‑wide activities. Supervise homework and other in‑class activities. Demonstrate appropriate communication with families, teachers, staff, and children. Attend regular staff meetings and trainings. Track attendance, performance, and behavior (positive and negative) through accurate record‑keeping. Design and implement lesson plans that promote monthly themes. Create a classroom environment that promotes working, learning, and creating. Work collectively with on‑site specialists.
