Job Description Possesses expert knowledge and clinical skill in order to oversee the day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring quality and compliance of all policies, procedures, and regulatory agencies. Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day operations of the social services department, ensuring quality and compliance of all policies, procedures, and regulatory agencies. Communicate with and facilitate conflict resolution with employees, physicians, patients/residents/families and other healthcare team members. Develop, adjust, and distribute employee schedules. Collaborate and provide feedback in measuring employee performance. Assist in training new staff members, mentoring, providing education and support. Supervise and provide feedback and support to social workers and the care management department. Provide oversight for social work students. Assist in interviewing, hiring, orienting, counseling, educating, disciplining and terminating when necessary. Assist in the escalation of discharge planning or social needs of patients/residents. Assist during short staffing or ill calls. Practice positive collaboration and convert difficult interactions into productive ones. Provide leadership for delivery of medical social services, expertise and/or consultation and act as liaison at local, regional, and state levels. Promote equal access to all throughout the health system. Demonstrate knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques to create and support an environment that meets quality goals. Maintain current certifications in specialty and continue education when necessary. Serve or chair departmental/organization committees and task forces as needed. May assist with other projects or assignments as assigned by organization, department, or leadership. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited program required. Master’s degree in social work or related field preferred. In Minnesota, must follow Minnesota State statute regarding social worker education. Minimum of two to five years of hospital or healthcare social work experience. Supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Depending on position, may be required to possess multi-state licensure privilege. Must possess a license in good standing in state(s) of practice. In Iowa, must have one of the following: Licensed Bachelor Social Worker (LBSW), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW). In Minnesota, must have one of the following: Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Graduated Social Worker (LGSW), Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or other allowed credential based on Minnesota statute. In North Dakota, must have one of the following: Licensed Baccalaureate Social Worker (LBSW), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). In South Dakota, must have one of the following: Social Worker license (SW), Certified Social Worker (CSW), Certified Social Worker - Private Independent Practice (CSW-PIP).
