Kidney Transplant Specialist – Advanced Practice Provider (APP) The Alvarez Transplant Center, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is seeking a qualified individual for the full‑time position of faculty Specialist (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) to provide general medical patient care in our kidney transplant program. This Advanced Practice Provider will become an integral part of the team supporting the transplant program’s inpatient and outpatient practices. Responsibilities Perform assessments of pre‑ and post‑transplant patients, ensuring implementation of program guidelines and protocols. Monitor patient results in different care settings and between visits. Engage in inpatient and ambulatory care rotations, interacting with consulting services and care and discharge planning. Participate in selection committee and multidisciplinary rounds. Monitor disposition of discharged patients and support transitional care. Qualifications Current or eligible for prescriptive authority with the State Medical Board within the first six months of hiring. License as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications. Strong clinical, decision‑making, organizational and motivational skills. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team and academic environment. New graduates are welcome to apply. Time Off – A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options: Front‑loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire. Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken. Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment. Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each fiscal year.
