Industrial Mechanic

The Wastewater Treatment Mechanic performs skilled mechanical work in support of an Advanced Water Purification Facility (AWPF). This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, overhaul, repair, and testing of mechanical equipment and systems used by the AWPF to achieve its treatment targets. This work directly affects the reliable operation of process pumps (including high-pressure and transfer pumps where applicable), motors and couplings, rotating equipment and mechanical drive components, valves and actuators, chemical feed equipment mechanical components, CIP/flush systems, and mechanical equipment serving membrane and advanced water treatment processes.

Key duties include performing preventative and maintenance and mechanical inspections; troubleshooting and repairing rotating equipment and process machinery; aligning mechanical components; supporting start-ups, shutdowns, and planned outages; documenting work performed, equipment condition, and parts usage in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and required logs; coordinating troubleshooting with operations, electrical, and instrumentation & controls; and responding to mechanical failures affecting plant operations. The Wastewater Treatment Mechanic collaborates with operations, maintenance (including LASan facility O&M as applicable), engineering and manufacturer/vendor technicians to plan and execute work in support of continuous operations.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Install maintains, overhaul tests, and repairs pumps, rotating equipment, gear drives, couplings, bearings, seals, and associated mechanical equipment
• Perform alignments, assembly, and repair of mechanical components and equipment skids
• Troubleshoots mechanical malfunctions affecting pumps, valves, actuators and process; restores equipment back to service.
• Support mechanical aspects of membrane and advanced water treatment equipment; flushing/CIO equipment, and associated piping interface plans, recommend improvements and document completed work in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). This role participates in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and lockout/tagout procedures, and ensures adherence to all site safety policies and regulatory standards
• Perform lubrication, inspection, and preventive maintenance tasks; identifies abnormal conditions and recommend corrective actions.

Safety and Compliance:

• The employee will follow applicable safety procedures and practices, including lockout/tagout, safe electrical work practices, arc flash requirements, confined requirements, and site-specific procedures. The employee will perform work in accordance with applicable codes and plant standards and will maintain a clean and safe working area. The employee may be required to respond to emergencies and urgent operational issues outside normal working hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Completion of a Recognized mechanical apprenticeship program or documented journey-level mechanical maintenance experience
• Demonstrated full-time experience performing industrial mechanical maintenance troubleshooting work involving rotating equipment in a wastewater treatment, water treatment, industrial process, or similar facility.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Six to ten (6–10) years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience in advanced wastewater purification, water reuse, or high purity industrial process facilities.
• Demonstrated experience maintaining and troubleshooting advanced treatment equipment, including:
• High-pressure and low-pressure pumps
• Reverse osmosis (RO) and membrane filtration systems
• UV disinfection and UV/AOP systems
• Ozone generation and contact systems
• Chemical feed, clean in place (CIP), and backwash systems
• Strong working knowledge of rotating equipment associated with advanced treatment processes, including pump alignment, seal replacement, bearing installation, vibration awareness, and lubrication best practices.
• Proven ability to support membrane system reliability, including mechanical aspects of membrane skids, pressure vessels, piping, valves, actuators, and integrity testing support.
• Experience diagnosing mechanical failures that impact process performance, water quality, or regulatory compliance, and implementing effective corrective actions in coordination with operations and engineering.
• Ability to interpret and apply mechanical drawings, P&IDs, OEM manuals, and technical specifications specific to advanced treatment systems.
• Working knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for advanced purification assets, including PM development, failure trend recognition, and reliability improvement recommendations.
• Proficiency using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to document work, track asset history, manage preventive maintenance, and support compliance and audit requirements.
• Strong understanding of industrial and treatment specific safety requirements, including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, chemical safety, high-pressure systems, and job hazard analysis
• Experience coordinating maintenance activities with operations staff, engineers, vendors, and contractors to minimize downtime and support continuous, high-quality plant operation.
• Ability to provide technical guidance and informal leadership to junior mechanics while maintaining a strong safety culture and high standard of workmanship.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a mechanical apprenticeship, trade school training, or specialized OEM training in membranes, pumps, or UV systems preferred.

Work Conditions and Expectations:

• Work is performed in an active industrial plant environment and may involve exposure to noise, weather, odors, chemicals, and process areas.
• Position may require participation in on-call rotation and response to after-hour maintenance or urgent operational issues.
• Physical work typical of industrial maintenance environment is required, including climbing, bending, and handling tools/materials.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $31.00/hr. - $42.60/hr.

Location B: $34.10/hr. - $46.90
