Nursery Caregiver - Mockingbird Campus

Caregiver Position

Caregivers will provide attentive, loving care to babies and children while their parents are attending worship or other functions at church. You will care for children ages birth to 2 years old on Sundays and children through 12 years old if asked to work a weeknight program. You will interact with parents at drop off and pick up, ensuring parents feel comfortable leaving their child in our care. Training is provided, although previous childcare experience is required.

Reports To: Nursery and Serving Coordinator

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Campus: Mockingbird

Working Hours: Part-time hourly position that is not eligible for benefits.

Schedule: Sundays 8 am 12:30 pm. Opportunities to work shifts during Weekday/nights optional.

Primary Duties:

• Ensures physical safety of children in care at all times
• Maintains positive, safe and caring relationship with children (greets enthusiastically, cares for needs including diaper changes, bathroom visits and feeding when needed, interacts positively and plays with children)
• Maintains welcoming and positive relationship with parents (greets appropriately, returns child with affirmative and constructive comments)
• Attends required safety and enrichment training up to two times a year.
• Provides all aspects of hands-on child care, including diaper changing, feeding, playing, running, chasing, redirecting and other child care duties as needed

Experience:

• Experience directly caring for infants and children in a similar environment (at least 1-3 months experience)
• CPR/First aid preferred, but will provide training.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required on a Frequent Basis

• Ability to communicate directly to parents and understand a child's feeding schedule and needs while in our care.
• Ability to hear, see and speak to children, explain and instruct in an age-appropriate and a caring way.
• Ability to sit on the ground and/or kneel and get up without assistance.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Ability to perform diaper changing, feeding, child protection and other child care tasks in line with policies and according to our guidelines (training provided.)

Education:

High school diploma (or equivalent)

We require committed Christians who are comfortable working in a United Methodist church environment and expect them to conduct themselves appropriately. A drug screening and criminal background check are conducted on all persons who are offered positions on a post-offer basis.
