Overview Are you a compassionate RN seeking a casual night shift opportunity in oncology? Earn an additional $5 per hour on top of your base rate for nights. Join our dedicated team on 4 North, an 18-bed telemetry-monitored unit at Jefferson Hospital, specializing in adult oncology. You’ll provide a full spectrum of oncology services from initial diagnosis and chemotherapy treatment to supportive care, and you’ll also care for adult patients with conditions requiring close monitoring such as electrolyte imbalances, diabetes, sepsis, anemia, and pre/post-operative needs. General Overview The Registered Nurse assesses human responses and plans, implements and evaluates nursing care for individuals or families for whom the nurse is responsible. The RN is fully responsible for all actions as a licensed nurse and is accountable to patients for the quality of care delivered. Essential Responsibilities The registered nurse provides leadership in a professional practice setting. Team player who contributes to building the team by helping others succeed through role modeling and mentoring. Assigns or delegates tasks based on the needs of the patient and skill level of the RN, LPN or support staff. Assigns duties and meals for staff when performing charge role. Maintains a safe environment, considers patient condition, intervention complexity and expected outcomes. Provides peers with verbal and written feedback regarding clinical practice and role performance. Shares knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues. Creates a culture where learning from mistakes is safe and expected. Participates on interdisciplinary team to evaluate clinical care or health services. Promotes patient safety initiatives (e.g., National Patient Safety Goals). Participates in department-specific quality initiatives; ensures appropriate order sets are used. Supervises delegates and evaluates assigned LPN scope of practice as appropriate. Uses the nursing process to assess, plan, evaluate and implement a patient plan of care as prescribed by physician and hospital policy, including patient and family involvement. Derives culturally and age-appropriate expected outcomes involving the patient, family and other health care providers. Analyzes health status and patient care needs by comparing data with norm when possible. Assesses patient reports/records for changes and notifies physician or supervisor; documents interventions accordingly. Accepts assignments in areas other than primary unit and performs duties within individualized competency. Demonstrates commitment to lifelong learning and professional development; participates in professional organizations. Seeks formal and independent learning using current research findings to maintain clinical skills. Participates in peer review and gathers feedback to identify strengths and areas for development. Meets time and attendance guidelines per hospital policy. Evaluates patient and family satisfaction and participates in department-specific patient satisfaction initiatives. Promotes compassionate, patient- and family-centered communication; addresses patient/family concerns as appropriate. Uses effective time management to complete duties within the work shift.
