Location China Lake, CA Status Full Time Job Description This technician independently plans and accomplishes complete projects or studies of broad scope and complexity, or serves as an expert in a narrow aspect of a particular field of engineering. Complexity of assignments typically requires considerable creativity and judgment to devise approaches to accomplish work, resolve design and operational problems, and make decisions in situations where standard engineering methods, procedures, and techniques may not be applicable. Supervisor or professional engineer provides advice on unusual or controversial problems or policy matters. Performs one or a combination of the following: a. Prepares designs and specifications for various complex equipment or systems b. Plans approach to solve design problems; conceives and recommends new design techniques; resolves design problems with contract personnel, and assures compatibility of design with other parts of the system. c. Designs and coordinates test set‑ups and experiments to prove or disprove the feasibility of preliminary design; uses untried and untested measurement techniques; and improves the performance of the equipment. May advise equipment users on redesign to solve unique operational deficiencies. d. Plans approach and conducts various experiments to develop equipment or systems characterized by (a) difficult performance requirements because of conflicting attributes such as versatility, size, and ease of operation; or (b) unusual combination of techniques or components. Arranges for, and performs, fabrication of pilot models, units, and components, and determines test procedures and design of special test equipment, systems, and/or units. The following responsibilities also apply: Participate in technical evaluations and investigations into product and process deficiencies that arise during design, test, and manufacture of weapon systems/subsystems. Perform production efforts to include but not limited to: technical and procurement data package preparation, review, and improvement; configuration management actions; general technical support; and reporting. Participate in the planning and conducting of program technical reviews and evaluations including design reviews, production readiness reviews, quality management system reviews, manufacturing readiness assessments, and configuration audits. Help develop plans and presentations for assigned projects and create performance, training, and procedure documentation to support production. Evaluate and provide assessment of complex engineering data prepared by contractors and their subcontractors. Education and Work Experience Requirements Due to customer requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoW Security clearance for the duration of employment. Adequate experience performing the duties of the labor category as described in the Department of Labor functional description. At least six (6) years of practical experience, to include laboratory testing, manufacturing, or maintenance. Experience may include technical work in drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples include: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience. Experience with various manufacturing and assembly processes of mechanical and/or electrical assemblies. Salary The pay range for this position is $92,164 to $141,440 but is subject to change. #J-18808-Ljbffr
