RN Pediatric Psychiatric

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric unit provides specialized nursing care to patients aged 5-18 experiencing acute mental health crises. The RN collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to deliver therapeutic, safe, and effective care focused on stabilization through group therapies, psychopharmacological interventions, and individualized treatment plans. This role requires strong pediatric psychiatric experience and the ability to work in a dynamic clinical environment. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to pediatric and adolescent psychiatric patients.
• Conduct patient assessments and monitor mental health status.
• Administer psychopharmacological treatments as prescribed.
• Facilitate and support participation in group therapies including Activities Therapy, Mindfulness, Wellness, and Coping Skills groups.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
• Ensure patient safety and therapeutic environment on the unit.
• Document nursing care and patient progress accurately and timely.
• Participate in unit-based meetings and ongoing professional development.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum of two years pediatric mental health nursing experience.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Strong clinical assessment and psychiatric nursing skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Blue Card certification.
• Experience working in a large, academic medical center.
• Telemetry experience.

Special Considerations:

• Work on a child and adolescent inpatient psychiatric unit serving ages 5-18.
• Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and participate in on-call rotations as needed.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients in acute mental health crisis.
• Compliance with unit-specific policies including blocked weekend night shifts.

Scheduling:

• 36 or 48 hours per week.
• Day, evening, and night shift rotations.
• Weekend and holiday shifts required as scheduled.
• On-call duties per unit needs.
