The Mechanic Transportation for Morgan County School District Re-3 is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on district school buses, support vehicles, fleet equipment, trailers, and related transportation assets. This position helps ensure that all vehicles operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Colorado Department of Education (CDE), Department of Transportation (DOT), manufacturer specifications, and applicable federal and state regulations. The Mechanic performs routine and advanced maintenance on vehicle systems, responds to repair needs, maintains accurate maintenance records, and assists with fleet operations to support safe and reliable student transportation services. This position may also assist with emergency service calls, snow removal operations, and fills in as a substitute driver as assigned to support district transportation needs.

Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on district school buses, support vehicles, trailers, equipment, and fleet assets in accordance with federal, state, manufacturer, and district requirements; Diagnose and repair diesel, gasoline, propane, and alternative-fuel engines, brakes, HVAC systems, suspension, steering, electrical systems, wheelchair lifts, and other vehicle components; Utilize diagnostic equipment and software to identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, emissions, and drivability issues; Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, work orders, and fleet management documentation; Assist in scheduling and completing routine maintenance to ensure fleet safety, reliability, and operational readiness; Communicate vehicle status, repair needs, and safety concerns with transportation staff, drivers, and supervisors; Provide technical assistance to drivers regarding vehicle operation, inspections, and mechanical concerns; Respond to roadside service calls and emergency breakdowns; perform on-site repairs or coordinate recovery services as needed; Assist with inventory management, parts ordering, shop supplies, and maintenance of tools, equipment, and repair facilities; Perform welding, fabrication, and minor body repairs as needed; Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment and promote safe work practices. Participate in professional development and training to remain current on vehicle technology and maintenance practices; Fill in as a substitute bus driver as assigned to support district transportation operations; Respond as essential personnel during emergencies, severe weather events, or transportation-related incidents; Perform other duties as assigned to support the Transportation Department and the mission of Morgan County School District Re-3.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Two (2)years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repairs, including automotive, medium/heavy-duty vehicles.

Ability and willingness to be on call and/or respond to calls 24/7; Mechanical repair skills; Basic math and writing skills; Ability to work a flexible schedule as assigned; Advanced knowledge and competence in auto and truck mechanics, and the ability to read and understand technical manuals and computer diagnostic equipment; Ability to provide appropriate tools; Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; Oral and written English language skills; Customer service, public relations, and interpersonal relations skills; Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job; Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions; Ability to use District computer systems for basic word processing, e-mail, and data entry, as well as record work hours and/or absences on District time management programs; Ability to maintain professional working relationships with all District staff and community members, and be part of a team; Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills; Ability to effectively communicate with parents, staff, and the community; Ability to maintain honesty and integrity in all aspects of the job; Ability to promote and follow Morgan County School District's Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, and building and department procedures; Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds; Ability to recognize the importance of workplace safety, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, use appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals; Operating knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and/or other software packages; Basic operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc. Operating knowledge of district information technology systems and any other department-specific software and equipment.
