Position Summary

This is a position responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC horizontal and vertical mills, as well as boring mills, to produce precision-machined parts to blueprint and GD&T specifications. The Mechanic works under the applicable collective bargaining agreement and is expected to perform all essential duties safely, accurately, and efficiently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Set up and run CNC horizontal and vertical mills to produce parts meeting print and quality requirements.

• Read and interpret blueprints and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.

• Perform some editing of G-code and M-code programs at the machine control to adjust offsets, tooling, and cutting parameters.

• Select, install, and adjust tooling, fixtures, and work-holding for horizontal, vertical, and boring mill operations.

• Inspect in-process and finished parts using precision measuring instruments to verify conformance to specifications.

• Demonstrate safe work habits and maintain a clean, organized work area at all times.

• Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment issues promptly.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Demonstrate reliability, working the hours necessary to meet requirements and customer demand.

• Organize and maintain efficiency of personal work area.

• Provide necessary, accurate, and timely feedback of all pertinent information to co-workers and management.

• Effectively communicate with co-workers and management personnel to enhance teamwork and productivity.

• Consistently adhere to and support company policies and procedures, including ISO 14001, IATF 16949, and safety regulations.

• Demonstrate engagement and pride in work product.

• Treat all co-workers with dignity and respect.

• Maintain knowledge of applicable control document procedures.

Work environment characteristics are representative of those that may be encountered to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, including working near loud moving mechanical parts, as well as:

Special Vision Requirements

• Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or GED required.

• Two or more years of CNC experience, preferably on horizontal and vertical mills and/or boring mills.

Computer Skills

• Experience with basic computer systems. Mastercam or SolidWorks

Communication Skills

• Speak effectively with fellow employees or customers.

• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

• Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.

Mathematical Skills

• Apply mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as basic algebra.

Other Skills

• Detail oriented.

• Organized and able to meet deadlines while performing multiple duties.

• Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
