Software Test Engineer I Software Test Engineer I defines and executes tests of software products in accordance with software test plans and procedures. Able to debug issues and drive to closure by working closely with appropriate stakeholders. Takes ownership for product initiatives, identifying and executing projects. Creates documents that capture test operations and report results to software engineering. Capable of creating and reviewing automated test scripts to expedite test execution. Create and review automated test scripts to expedite execution. Assist with implementation of software validation test plans. Automate test plans and provide input on test frameworks/tools. Work with CI systems to ensure tests are updated and functional across builds/releases. Prepare and review test plan reports, including pass/fail evaluations. Perform and document software test audits in compliance with procedures. Assist product development engineers in diagnosing and replicating product failures. Oversee and identify potential problems in test plans. Manage time efficiently to complete work and paperwork by assigned dates. Record and compile data for documentation of test procedures and prepare reports. Review data for compliance to specifications, recognize out-of-norm events, and report abnormalities. Estimate test effort for new project deliverables. Plan and implement test strategies for system upgrades. Work cross-functionally with R&D, Technical Support, and Quality Engineers to match testing processes with documented specification requirements. Keep department manager abreast of activities and issues of the software test group and inform appropriate groups of trends. Provide on-the-job training and direction to less experienced staff as assigned. Confirm completion of required training plan for software testers before assuming responsibilities. Location & Work Arrangement Hybrid: This role will be a mix of in-office work at our corporate headquarters in Del Mar, CA and remote work. This position is expected to be in office 2-3 days per week but may vary depending on business demands. Requirements Ability to read and follow procedures and flow diagrams. Effective communication and idea sharing within and outside the department (written or verbal). Proficiency in supporting effective interactions between team members and cross-functional teams. Demonstrated ability to schedule and coordinate project priorities and resources while producing high-quality work. Experience with Scrum and Agile methodologies. Experience with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Proficient knowledge of at least one embedded or cloud-based programming language, preferably JavaScript, Python, C, or C#. Familiar/working knowledge of CI systems. Familiarity with common test frameworks and automation tools, preferably Selenium WebDriver, Jasmine, Mocha, Appium. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience. 3+ years of experience with software test or quality assurance. Experience as a lead tester who fully participates in specification and clarification of software requirements. Experience as a test engineer with expertise in the system they support. Experience with creation, Design Change Assessments, and participation in the software review board. Experience in proofreading, following detailed work instructions, and projects requiring critical thinking skills. Compensation & Benefits Starting base pay range: $39.23/hr to $43.27/hr, adjusted for job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonus and robust benefits package.
