Activity Coordinator

Recreational LeaderUnder direction of the Recreation Supervisor, coordinates, organizes, and conducts a variety of specialized recreational, educational, and community service programs, including, but not limited to: day camps, aquatics, youth, seniors, sports, teens, classes, special events, and after school programs; develops, plans, and implements program activities; coordinates contractual services; supervises part-time, volunteer, and contract personnel; performs related work as required.Representative DutiesAssists the Recreation Coordinator with the implementation of goals and objectives involved in the operation of assignments.Works directly with all participants; plans recreational and social activities suited to the needs of the participants (youth, teens and seniors); prepares or coordinates the development of event publicity, including news releases flyers, pamphlets, and brochures and attends events as needed; maintains records and develops reports concerning new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness; coordinates the acquisition of materials and equipment.Assists public at counter/front desk, accepts registration using recreation software, answers incoming calls.Interfaces with customers, organizations, or other partners to determine needs for activities, events, and programs.Performs related duties as required.Working ConditionsAvailable to work varied shifts, including evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays. Position requires prolonged standing, sitting, walking on level or unleveled surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. Incumbents may be required to lift, carry and/or push objects weighing 50 pounds or more. This position requires near and far vision for reading written documents and in the observation of participants during activities. Acute hearing is also required in providing customer service to public and /or assistance in facility, classroom, or outdoors. Will also be working in outdoor area and may be exposed to loud noises and extreme weather conditions.Typical QualificationsEducation and Experience An Associate's degree or 60 college credits completed from an accredited college or university with emphases in Recreation, Education, Administration or closely related field AND equivalent to three (3) years of related experience as a Recreation Leader within a municipal/community services or educational operation or progressively responsible work experience in after school, educational, or municipal recreation programming. Knowledge and Abilities Procedures for implementing a variety of recreational/educational activities and programs through community participation; create program content for specialized community recreation/educational activities; basic personnel management principles, practices and techniques including methods for employee selection, supervision, evaluation and training; and common recreational, social, and educational needs of various age groups. Possession of minimum qualifications does not guarantee an invitation to the next step in the selection process. All candidate materials will be carefully evaluated and only those considered best qualified will be invited to the next step in the selection process.Vacation: Four (4) hours per month if the total hours worked is equal to or exceeds sixty (60) hours for each pay period in the month. Sick Leave: Part-time employees shall accrue four (4) hours of sick leave per month if the total hours worked is equal to or exceeds sixty (60) hours for each pay period in the month. Employees shall be credited with forty (40) hours of sick leave upon date of hire and every January thereafter Retirement: Employees working less than 30 hours per week will be enrolled in the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS) upon date of hire unless the employee was previously enrolled in the California Public Employees' Retirement Systems (CALPERS). City and employee equally contribute 3.75% towards benefit. Health Plan Options: Upon eligibility PPO Plan available at cost to the employee. A part-time employee becomes eligible for health insurance if the employee worked an average of thirty (30) hours or more per week over the last twelve (12) months of service. Bilingual Bonus Pay: The city shall pay each approved part-time employee a Bilingual Bonus of eleven dollars and fifty-five cents ($11.55) per pay period as long as the employee remains eligible for this bonus.
