Job Title: Heavy Machine Operator – Marsh Excavator Specialist Highly Sought After
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Compensation: $24–$26 per hour based on experience
Type: Contract

Position Overview

Genesis  is seeking an experienced Heavy Machine Operator with strong excavator, dozier, and dredging skills to support our team. This role requires a dependable operator who can safely and efficiently handle heavy equipment in a marine and construction environment. Experienced operating a Marsh Excavator is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the successful completion of construction and engineering projects
• Operate heavy equipment including marsh excavators, cranes, earth movers, bulldozers, and front-end loaders
• Maneuver machinery accurately to avoid accidents and property damage
• Conduct regular safety, maintenance, and service checks on all equipment
• Perform minor on-the-spot repairs; report major issues for proper maintenance
• Follow signals and instructions from team members and supervisors
• Adhere to all job-site safety standards, procedures, and traffic laws

Qualifications

• Required: Strong experience in dredging operations
• Highly Preferred: Extensive marsh excavator experience
• Proven ability to operate heavy and power-driven equipment safely
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Strong decision-making skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work well under pressure and handle emergencies
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Flexible schedule, including availability for irregular or extended hours

 

Physical Demands:

Stamina:  A degree of physical stamina is needed to perform the job duties, which can be strenuous.

Reaching and Twisting :

Operators may need to reach with hands and arms or twist their bodies to operate controls or inspect machinery.

Climbing and Balance :

The job involves frequent climbing into and out of equipment, requiring balance and agility.

Lifting :

Operators may need to lift and carry objects up to 50-75 pounds occasionally, as well as push or pull heavy items.

Coordination :

Strong hand-eye-foot coordination is essential for precise control of heavy machinery.

Sitting :

Operators spend significant time seated in the equipment, so being comfortable for long durations is important.
