Amazon is seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical Engineer to design, build, and launch novel robotics hardware. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanism design, prototyping, and integration of robotic subsystems, and must have the ability to work well both independently and in a multidisciplinary team setting.Key job responsibilities- Design and detail mechanical components and assemblies for robotic hand, forearm, and actuator systems using CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent)- Generate engineering drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation to support prototype builds- Support prototype fabrication, assembly, and integration of multi-DOF robotic mechanisms- Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and basic structural/thermal calculations to inform design decisions- Collaborate with electrical, firmware, and controls engineers to ensure mechanical designs meet system-level requirements- Conduct hands-on testing, failure analysis, and design iteration based on test results- Maintain clear engineering documentation (design reports, test procedures, change logs)Basic qualifications- BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent- 3+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience- Knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design, and advanced assemblies- Experience with prototyping methods (CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal)- Familiarity with common mechanical components: gears, bearings, fasteners, seals, actuators- Hands-on experience assembling and testing mechanical hardwarePreferred qualification - Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume- Experience in robotics, mechatronics, or precision mechanism design- Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)- Exposure to FEA tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or equivalent)- Experience managing vendor relationships for prototype or low-volume production parts- Familiarity with tendon-driven mechanisms, compliant mechanisms, or multi-DOF linkages- Experience working in a lab/protoshop environment alongside electronics and firmware teamsAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
