CALTRANS ELECTRONICS SPECIALIST (REPAIR LABORATOR)

Caltrans Electronics Specialist – Department of Transportation – Classification JC‑520049 – Salary $5,960.00 – $7,480.00 per month (New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable). Under general supervision of the Caltrans Electronics Specialist Supervisor or Electrical Supervisor, the incumbent will perform electrical and electronic installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on equipment related to traffic signals and other state electrical facilities. The incumbent will perform equipment repairs for other Districts within Caltrans, performing benchwork repairs down to electronic circuit component levels. The incumbent may also be used for various field and support functions. Working Conditions This position is primarily a shop position but may require the employee to work across a wide range of weather conditions, including heat up to 120 degrees, cold to 30 degrees, strong winds, rain, dust, noise, and uneven surfaces. Abnormal workweeks can be established. Willingness to stay abreast of current technological changes in the field of electricity and electronics is required. Incumbent may be scheduled to work weekends and/or night shift as needed with proper advance notice. Overtime may be requested due to emergencies, special projects, or as deemed necessary by the department. Minimum Requirements Minimum qualifications as listed in the classification specification. Possession of a valid driver’s license required when operating a state‑owned or leased vehicle. Desirable Qualifications Electrical and electronic theory and practice. Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of highway traffic signal systems, minor electrical construction, and electronics as applied to control and measuring devices. Knowledge of Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety and safety precautions required in the installation and repair of traffic control and other electrical and electronic devices.
