The Service Manager will oversee plumbing and HVAC service activities, support and develop field technicians, manage customer relationships, prepare service estimates and proposals, and help expand long-term service and preventive-maintenance relationships with commercial and industrial clients.

This is a hands-on leadership position with significant opportunity to help shape the continued growth of our service operation.

Review completed work orders for accuracy and completeness.

Ensure service work moves efficiently from field completion through billing.

Maintain high standards for service quality, responsiveness, and customer communication.

Financial & Operational Management

Monitor service department financial and operational performance.

Review job costs, labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.

Prepare and manage quoted service repairs.

Support appropriate pricing and cost recovery for commercial service work.

Monitor work-order status and service-job profitability.

Assist with department budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting.

Customer Relationship Management

Develop and maintain strong relationships with commercial, industrial, institutional, and government customers.

Serve as a primary management contact for key service accounts.

Communicate repair recommendations and service options clearly and professionally.

Resolve customer concerns and help ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.

Develop long-term relationships with facility managers, property managers, building owners, and other customer representatives.

Business Development

Identify new commercial plumbing and HVAC service opportunities.

Expand service relationships with existing customers.

Conduct facility and equipment assessments.

Develop preventive-maintenance and service proposals.

Support the development of recurring commercial service agreements.

Follow up on repair recommendations and service opportunities identified by field technicians.

Coordinate with other company departments to provide customers with comprehensive mechanical solutions.

Technician Leadership

Lead, support, and develop plumbing and HVACR service technicians.

Establish clear expectations for safety, workmanship, productivity, customer communication, and field documentation.

Provide coaching, technical support, and performance feedback.

Promote accurate capture of labor, materials, equipment information, photographs, and service recommendations.

Help identify training and professional-development opportunities for field personnel.

Participate in recruiting and onboarding service technicians as needed.

Preventive Maintenance & Asset Management

Support the development and execution of commercial plumbing and HVAC preventive-maintenance programs.

Promote accurate documentation of customer equipment and mechanical assets.

Review deficiencies identified during service and maintenance activities.

Develop repair recommendations and proposals based on field findings.

Assist customers with equipment-condition evaluations and long-term maintenance planning.

Qualifications

Strong commercial plumbing, HVAC, mechanical-service, or related industry experience.

Previous service-management, operations-management, service-supervision, or comparable leadership experience preferred.

Working knowledge of commercial HVAC and plumbing systems.

Experience leading or supporting field technicians.

Ability to estimate and quote commercial service repairs.

Experience with preventive-maintenance programs and service agreements preferred.

Understanding of job costing, service pricing, and department financial performance.

Strong customer-service and relationship-management skills.

Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced service environment.

Comfortable using field-service, ERP, and business-management software.

Experience with Viewpoint Vista is a plus.

Experience in a union mechanical-contractor environment is a plus.

Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

What We're Looking For

Understands commercial and industrial service rather than residential sales-driven service.

Can balance customer needs, technician resources, and business performance.

Is comfortable working directly with both customers and field personnel.

Understands how preventive maintenance, reactive service, repair work, and larger mechanical projects support one another.

Values accurate documentation and strong operational processes.

Takes ownership of problems and follows them through to resolution.

Can develop long-term customer relationships built on technical competence, responsiveness, and trust.

Compensation

Base salary: $110,000-$140,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Additional compensation and benefits will be discussed as part of the hiring process.

About the Opportunity

This position offers the opportunity to take a significant leadership role within an established commercial mechanical contractor and help shape the continued growth of its plumbing and HVAC service capabilities.

We are looking for someone who wants to build strong customer relationships, develop a high-performing service team, and contribute to a service operation focused on quality workmanship, professionalism, and long-term customer value.
