Procurement Consultant

The Procurement Consultant serves as a subject matter expert in developing sourcing strategies for labor, services, materials, and equipment that support key business functions. This role designs and executes sourcing and contracting strategies, applies advanced negotiation techniques, and manages supplier performance and contract compliance to support overarching category management objectives. The Procurement Consultant leads cross-functional teams, supports category strategy development, and ensures that procurement activities align with business needs and deliver maximum value while mitigating risk.

Responsibilities:

• Procure goods and services with high value or complex requirements, ensuring alignment with business unit needs.
• Assess business requirements and develop procurement plans that appropriately match those requirements.
• Execute sourcing strategies based on category manager guidance and leading procurement practices.
• Assist Category Managers in developing and refining category strategies.
• Leverage market, supplier, and spend analyses to inform category strategies and competitive solicitations, including RFX processes.
• Coordinate and lead cross-functional category teams during sourcing events to ensure effective collaboration and outcomes.
• Perform contract administration activities related to sourcing events, including documentation and compliance oversight.
• Develop negotiating strategies and lead negotiations with suppliers to achieve favorable terms and conditions.
• Write summaries and detailed content for basic to moderately complex contracts, including pricing, business requirements, performance criteria, terms and conditions, and risk mitigation provisions.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with business partners and suppliers to support category strategies and long-term collaboration.
• Work with the Service Center to ensure transactional and customer support services are aligned with category strategies.
• Coordinate with key suppliers and business partners on the delivery of high-value manufactured equipment and materials, including transportation and storage requirements.
• Manage contract compliance and administration for high-value manufactured equipment and materials, including economic price adjustments, replacement programs, and credit programs.
• Leverage contract knowledge to identify and mitigate risks while maximizing contract value.
• Help develop and evolve category management processes and engage suppliers on operational, strategic, and financial issues.
• Lead multiple sourcing projects and initiatives simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and adherence to quality standards.

Essential Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, supply chain, or a related field, or 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
• At least 3 years of relevant customer service and/or procurement experience.
• For more advanced levels, a bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, supply chain, or a related field, or 6 years of relevant work experience.
• At least 5 years of relevant work experience, including experience working with cross-functional teams.
• For senior-level responsibilities, a bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, supply chain, or a related field is required.
• At least 7 years of relevant work experience in contract management, paralegal work, or supply chain.
• Demonstrated experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain category management.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
• Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with business partners, stakeholders, and suppliers.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams during sourcing and contracting efforts.
• Experience developing negotiating strategies and leading contract negotiations.
• Experience in contract administration, including drafting and managing contracts with performance criteria and risk mitigation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Supply chain category management experience, preferably within the utility, manufacturing, or construction industry.
• Experience working in or with utility, manufacturing, or construction environments is preferred.
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
• Ability to support the development and continuous improvement of category management processes.
• Comfort engaging suppliers on operational, strategic, and financial topics.
• Strong attention to detail when drafting and reviewing contracts and sourcing documents.
• Capability to work independently while also contributing effectively in cross-functional team settings.

Work Environment:

This role is based onsite, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The work environment is professional and collaborative, with frequent interaction with cross-functional teams, business partners, and suppliers. The position involves regular use of standard office technologies and systems to manage sourcing events, contracts, and supplier performance. Business-appropriate attire is expected in this office setting.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of Columbus, OH.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $47.12 - $47.12/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
