Certified Surgical Technologist

Required Qualifications

• Certification as a surgical technologist through a nationally recognized credentialing body (such as NBSTSA or NCCT). Include certification number and expiration date with submissions.
• At least one year of current cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) experience for CVOR-focused positions.
• At least two years of recent main operating room experience for general OR positions; orthopedic experience preferred.
• Updated résumé with accurate job history and unit details.

Position Summary

This role supports surgical procedures by preparing instruments, equipment, and supplies, and by functioning as the primary scrub assistant during operative and invasive procedures. The technologist collaborates with the circulating nurse and other clinical staff to maintain a safe, efficient, and well-coordinated operating environment. The position requires strong proficiency in aseptic technique, attention to detail, and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
Education and Credentials

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
• Current Basic Life Support certification.
• Active surgical technologist certification from an approved national organization.

Experience Requirements

• CVOR track: minimum one year of recent CVOR surgical technologist experience.
• Main OR track: minimum two years of recent acute-care main OR experience.
• Experience must be from an acute-care hospital setting; outpatient surgery center experience is not accepted.
• Ability to function independently as the first scrub for assigned specialties.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room by ensuring required instruments, supplies, and equipment are available and functioning properly.
• Maintain strict adherence to aseptic technique and infection prevention practices.
• Support efficient case flow, including assisting with case setup and turnover.
• Deliver safe patient care in accordance with established standards, procedures, and regulatory expectations.
• Participate in continuing education, maintain skill competencies, and act as a resource for newer team members when appropriate.
• Contribute to workflow improvement efforts and uphold high standards of professional conduct.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Candidates without the required acute-care CVOR or Main OR experience should not be moved forward.
