Job Title: Phlebotomist II
Job Description

The main function of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of specimens for testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate work areas and update patient information.
• Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport according to protocols.
• Store specimen samples at the required temperature and in appropriate containers.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2-4 years of phlebotomy experience.

• Experience drawing blood from all age groups.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Understanding of specimen processing and diagnostic procedures.

This position operates in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7 am to 3:30 pm. Employees benefit from a supportive work environment with opportunities for growth, comprehensive benefits, and bonuses.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Valrico, FL.

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $18.00/hr.
