Forensic Clinical Psychologist

About the Role The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is hiring a Forensic Clinical Psychologist for its Forensics Unit at the Office of the Commissioner. The role involves conducting court‑ordered evaluations for Competency to Stand Trial cases, report writing and editing, and testifying in court as required. The position requires frequent travel across the state to correctional facilities, hospitals, and courts. Key Responsibilities Conduct court‑ordered examinations for Competency to Stand Trial (CT 54‑56d) Lead interviews during these examinations Provide other examinations independently or with other clinical staff in the Office of Forensic Evaluations Write and edit reports to be submitted to the court Conduct testing to support opinion formulation and summarize findings for the multidisciplinary team Provide clinical education to staff on relevant topics Benefits and Opportunities Professional growth and development opportunities Healthy work/life balance for all employees Minimum Qualifications Doctorate degree in clinical or counseling psychology At least one (1) year of post‑doctoral experience under the supervision of a licensed psychologist License to practice psychology in Connecticut (or exemption under Public Act 613, Section 119(c) for those employed before July1,1985) Preferred Qualifications Experience with forensic populations and the judicial system Experience providing court testimony Experience conducting testing for malingering and restorability assessments Special Requirements Maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S.§ 1320a‑7b(f) May be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in American Sign Language Travel may be required within the state Working Conditions Incumbents may be required to lift and restrain individuals, be exposed to communicable diseases, or risk injury from assaultive or abusive individuals. Working conditions may also involve exposure to disagreeable environments.
