ABOUT THE ROLE

CSET's Sequoia Community Corps is seeking a highly motivated individual to provide recycling education outreach to students attending the Clemmie Gill School of Science and Conservation (SCICON). The right candidate will be able to work in a high-functioning environment with a diverse population.

The Recycling Education team is responsible for providing recycling education presentations to school-aged children and community members. The team also attends community events and performs a variety of other duties related to recycling. The ideal candidate will have experience in marketing and mentoring youth, and will be a team player with a can-do attitude. Strong communication, writing, time management, and comprehension skills are a must. Must be able to work with little to no supervision.

SCOPE OF WORK

The purpose of this position is to provide community members with recycling education. The incumbent of this position is responsible for recruiting potential customers, providing outreach in communities, and developing Corpmembers in our training program.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Teaches presentation and marketing skills for the design and implementation of the Recycling program
  • Evaluates Corpsmembers on delivery of presentation, attitude, and teamwork, and provides feedback for improvement
  • Teaches various office skills including data entry and customer service
  • Coordinates special recycling events to promote program goals and maximize benefits to participants, partners, and community members
  • Develops, formats, and/or orders promotional material for multiple SCC departments
  • Provides recommendations to the Program Coordinator regarding Corpmember discipline and assists in enforcing policies and procedures as set forth in the Corpmembers handbook
  • Prepares and modifies documents including correspondence, reports, memos, and emails
  • Serves as a Corpmember liaison, responding to problems, questions, or concerns and coordinating with the proper agency personnel to provide timely and accurate answers
  • Provides documentation to partnering agencies
  • Inputs accurate and complete data for all customer contacts into the agency database
  • Facilitates one-to-one mentoring; assists in preparation for job readiness, resume building, and life skills
  • Refers Corpmembers to other CSET resources as applicable
  • Participates in outreach events and meetings with partner agencies as assigned
  • Develops system modules
  • Coordinates meetings and trainings for the department
  • Recruits new businesses and school accounts
  • Monitors buyback centers, facilities, and businesses to ensure compliance and monitor needs
  • Responsible for fleet vehicles assigned to the department, ensuring they are serviced and reporting any damage
  • Serves as main point of contact for businesses
  • Distributes marketing material door to door
  • Markets the program to businesses and schools to gain new accounts
  • Participates in training and professional development to build required knowledge for the position
  • Performs other duties including but not limited to fulfillment of work schedules, adherence to attendance policies, and other applicable operating rules, policies, and procedures

  • Excellent writing skills and ability to write in collaboration with staff and/or other organizations
  • Knowledge of community action, recycling, workforce development, and youth development programs
  • Proficient as a trainer and teacher of work habits and skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employers, co-workers, members of other agencies, and the general public
  • Ability to work with Corpmembers in a calm, professional, friendly, and patient manner
  • Knowledgeable in modern office procedures and methods; proficient in the use of computers, Windows operating system, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Access), and program database
  • Strong communication skills, research abilities, flexibility, and an ability to work well with others
  • Ability to read and interpret documents
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • In-depth knowledge of all aspects of the various company programs and the ability to communicate policy information in a clear and detailed manner
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form

COMPENSATION

Pay Range: $21.36 – $22.11 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. This position is classified as Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with California and federal law.
