Plant Materials & Purchasing Manager

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Plant Materials & Purchasing Manager to lead all aspects of purchasing, materials planning, inventory control, logistics, and customer delivery performance within a fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment.

This position is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted material flow, maintaining inventory accuracy, supporting production requirements, developing supplier relationships, and driving world-class delivery performance. The successful candidate will provide leadership to purchasing, planning, logistics, and inventory functions while supporting continuous improvement initiatives throughout the plant.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Supply Chain & Materials Management

• Lead plant materials planning, inventory control, and capacity management activities
• Ensure customer delivery requirements are achieved while supporting production schedules
• Monitor inventory levels, accuracy, and inventory reduction initiatives
• Manage production material flow and logistics performance
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory, delivery, and operational efficiency

Purchasing & Supplier Management

• Manage direct, indirect, tooling, and capital equipment purchasing activities
• Lead supplier sourcing, negotiations, pricing agreements, and contract management
• Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships
• Monitor supplier performance through scorecards and continuous improvement initiatives
• Support supplier development and resourcing projects

Logistics & Customer Service

• Oversee inbound and outbound logistics activities
• Manage freight costs, expedited shipments, and transportation performance
• Ensure on-time supplier deliveries and customer shipments
• Support customer service initiatives and delivery performance metrics

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

• Lead, mentor, and develop purchasing, planning, logistics, and materials personnel
• Establish departmental goals, KPIs, and performance expectations
• Participate in APQP activities, launches, and customer-driven initiatives
• Support internal audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement efforts
• Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Finance, and Corporate leadership teams

Qualifications

Required

• 10+ years of experience in materials management, purchasing, supply chain, logistics, or manufacturing operations
• Previous leadership experience within a manufacturing environment
• Experience managing supplier relationships, purchasing activities, and inventory control
• Strong understanding of ERP/MRP systems and supply chain processes
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills

Preferred

• Automotive manufacturing experience
• Tier 1 or Tier 2 supplier experience
• APQP experience
• Knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001
• APICS certification
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, Engineering, or related field
