Psychiatrist (Part Time)

The Recovery Village Columbus Drug and Alcohol Rehab is a premier treatment facility in the picturesque town of Groveport, Ohio. Our facility is close enough to airports and major roadways for convenience, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Columbus to encourage renewal and relaxation. RVC, an 80‑bed facility, offers a complete continuum of care, from medical detox and inpatient treatment to outpatient care and aftercare. Our care team of doctors, clinicians, counselors and addiction professionals use their years of experience to provide high‑quality and compassionate care to those seeking recovery.

Position Overview

The Addiction Physician provides administrative oversight of the facility’s medical services, overseeing and leading the medical staff, dietitians, and physician services coordinator (where applicable) while building a collaborative team with nursing and clinical departments. Administrative duties are a small part of the Medical Director’s job. They must spend much of their time meeting the job duties of either a psychiatrist or addiction medicine physician.

Responsibilities

Provides excellent medical care following the ARS philosophy. Knowledge of detoxification protocols, assessment for medication, withdrawal assessment and management of complications, medication‑assisted therapy, ASAM criteria, and medical needs criteria; documents decision making accordingly.

Assists the CMO, or Associate CMP and the Executive Director in developing and maintaining written objectives, policies, procedure manual, organization plan, and a quality assurance program for medical services; reviews all medical policies and procedures at least annually. Documents are shared with the facility’s medical staff, director of nursing services and other appropriate medical staff.

Plans and budgets for medical services in conjunction with the CMO, Executive Director and governing authority of the facility.

Supports medical staff metrics including expense management, compliance quality, completion of treatment stay, and outcomes/readmission rates.

Completes all required documentation using the electronic health record, ensuring compliance with company policies, state regulations, Joint Commission standards and Medical Needs Criteria. Records include:

• Psychiatric Evaluation
• Admission History and Physical Evaluation / CSSRS / Pain Assessment
• Medical Progress Notes
• Medical Discharge Summary
• Medication and ancillary orders
• Patient Allergies
• Diagnosis / update diagnosis
• Lab Data

Screen for substance use disorders, psychoactive toxicity, intoxication and withdrawal symptoms. Screen for pain and develop individualized treatment strategies.

Review physical examination reports and medical screening results to ensure client medical needs are addressed in the treatment plan.

Develops and implements performance improvement plans as needed.

Communicates on‑call responsibilities, maintains contact and backup numbers, and is available within one hour of the facility when on call.

Works closely with Corporate Human Resources to recruit, interview and hire new employees; ensures onboarding is effective.

Maintains effective daily staffing patterns and on‑call schedules within budgetary constraints.

Evaluates medical staff competency annually based on specified performance standards.

Collaborates with attending physicians weekly to discuss patient care and evaluate treatments.

Reviews and audits all charts prior to insurance audits.

Performs other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

• Graduated from an accredited medical school.
• Experience in addiction medicine.
• Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory position.
• Familiarity with Joint Commission and other healthcare standards.
• Familiarity with ASAM criteria.
• Communication skills to relate to all levels of facility staff.
• Licensed to practice medicine in the appropriate state (MD or DO).
• Board certification in psychiatry; additional ABPM‑Addiction Medicine certification a nice to have.
• DEA license to prescribe controlled medications and training on Buprenorphine prescribing.
• Application of continuous quality improvement and performance improvement team philosophy; ability to develop and apply organizational strategies.
