Histotechnician Opportunity in San Diego, CA***$3,000 Sign on bonus offered to external hires***Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnician to join our grossing team in San Diego, CA.Work Schedule: 2nd shift: This is a casual/per diem position; hours will be "as needed" the start and end times will varyJob ResponsibilitiesProcess human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic examPerform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimensSection the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slidePerform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sectionsProcess mounted sections through routine and special staining proceduresProperly orient and embed surgical tissue specimensPrepare the stains and reagents needed for special proceduresReport accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient careOperate and maintain manual and automated instrumentsPerform and document equipment maintenance as neededRecord equipment log data in an accurate and timely mannerPerform and document preventive maintenance and quality control proceduresAdhere to the laboratory's quality control policiesFollow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reportingDocument problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as neededMinimum QualificationsAssociate's degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology2 years or more prior grossing experiencePreferred Qualification:Current or prior Labcorp experienceBachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical TechnologyHistology and/or ASCP certificationsAdditional Job StandardsFamiliarity with routine histology procedures and equipmentImmunohistochemistry experienceComfortability embedding both large and small specimensAbility to accurately read all labels and documentsHighly organized with a strong attention to detailExperience working in a high volume laboratory environmentFamiliarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocolsAble to pass a standardized color blindness testAt Labcorp we have a passion in helping people live happy and healthy lives.
