Patient Transportation Driver

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities will include:

• Receiving work assignments and direction regarding work methods, procedures and schedules from either the Transportation Coordinator and/or the Mobility Manager;
• Incumbent is responsible to ensure that only eligible Veterans and their caregivers are transported to the Medical Center and CBOCs and returned to their respective pick-up locations.
• Serving as a patient transportation driver shuttling patients to and from approved locations up to 150-mile radius.
• Provides non-emergent, safe transportation of eligible Veterans and cargo.
• Arriving at and departing from pickup and discharge points at scheduled times;
• Reading installation maps and judging road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route;
• Enforcing passenger safety and seatbelt use;
• Using multiple variations of Mobile Data Computer (MDC) in and out of the vehicles for assigned trips and duties daily;
• Loading and unloading patients and medical supplies;
• Inspecting, cleaning, and preventive maintenance on vehicles and will require completing routine reporting requirements for the WS Program.
• Operates and provides preventive maintenance for VTS patient transport vehicles.
• Maintaining records and document actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports;
• Marion, IL VAMC and/or Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) via the VTS shuttle.
• Using two-way radios (or other device) to maintain communications with dispatcher/supervisor on assignments and locations;
• Incumbent is responsible for providing the travel office with a list of Veterans who arrived at the

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; Full - Time, 7:30am - 4:00pm
