Industrial HVAC Technician

Malace|HR is seeking an experienced Senior Industrial HVAC Technician to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of large-scale industrial HVAC and mechanical systems. This position is ideal for a hands-on technician with strong troubleshooting abilities and extensive experience working with industrial chillers, boilers, pumps, and associated mechanical equipment.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of industrial or large commercial HVAC experience and the technical expertise to work independently while providing guidance and mentorship to junior technicians. This is a hands-on role focused on maintaining equipment reliability, diagnosing complex mechanical issues, and supporting safe and efficient facility operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on large-scale industrial HVAC and mechanical systems, including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, motors, and associated equipment.

• Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and HVAC system issues to minimize equipment downtime.

• Maintain and repair steam and hot water boiler systems, chilled water systems, and associated distribution equipment.

• Troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild pumps and related mechanical components.

• Perform maintenance on air compressors, air handling units, rooftop HVAC equipment, and other facility utility systems.

• Conduct routine equipment inspections, operational testing, water testing, and system performance assessments.

• Assist with major equipment repairs, component replacements, and system improvements.

• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and hands-on support to junior maintenance technicians.

• Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to document work orders, maintenance activities, and equipment repairs.

• Communicate equipment concerns, repair recommendations, and maintenance updates to supervisors and facility leadership.

• Follow all applicable safety procedures, including job hazard assessments, work permits, and proper handling of hazardous materials.

• Coordinate materials, replacement parts, and necessary tools to complete maintenance and repair activities.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on HVAC experience working in industrial or large commercial facilities.

• EPA 608 Universal Certification required.

• Strong experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing large industrial HVAC equipment.

• Hands-on experience with industrial chillers, steam boilers, hot water boilers, pumps, and associated mechanical systems.

• Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues and independently perform repairs.

• Experience disassembling, repairing, and rebuilding pumps and mechanical components.

• Strong understanding of industrial HVAC system operations and preventive maintenance procedures.

• Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced technicians.

• General computer proficiency and ability to utilize computerized work order or maintenance tracking systems.

• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

• Ability to participate in an on-call and weekend rotation as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting large-capacity chilled water systems.

• Experience with industrial steam and hot water boiler systems.

• Familiarity with cooling towers, water treatment systems, air compressors, and large mechanical equipment.

• Experience performing major mechanical repairs, pump rebuilds, and equipment overhauls.

• Previous experience serving as a senior technician, lead technician, or technical mentor.

• Experience working in manufacturing plants, industrial facilities, central utility plants, or other facilities with large-scale mechanical systems.
