Registered Nurse

A professional nurse is responsible for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe, effective patient and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes. The RN is accountable for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit and promoting personal development with emphasis on evidence-based practice and education. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members. The RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care. The RN focuses on patient and family comforts, education, and satisfaction. The RN applies educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care and mentoring/precepting staff. The RN performs assessments and reassessments as required by policy or patient condition. The RN demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions. The RN initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care, reviewing and revising it as indicated. The RN collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary services, utilizing resources appropriately. The RN monitors and documents responses to clinical interventions. The RN facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient and family needs relative to care provided during their stay and at discharge. The RN delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel and functions as a mentor/preceptor. The RN encourages teamwork and identifies opportunities for improvement. The RN participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts and implements practice changes. The RN complies with regulatory standards and participates in a governance model. Required skills include patient assessment, care plan development, care plan implementation, care plan evaluation, and patient education. Additional skills include family education, mentoring, precepting, teamwork, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance. Required education includes a Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree (ASN).
