Youth Staff Position At Southside Community Land Trust

Southside Community Land Trust provides access to land, education, and resources so people can grow their own food in environmentally sustainable ways and create community food systems where locally produced, affordable and healthy food is available to all. With SCLT this summer, Youth Staff will help build and sustain community food systems while immersed in hands-on learning. The program runs from July 6 to August 14. Youth Staff explore career opportunities in agriculture and other green sciences, earn micro-credentials and develop workplace readiness skills, and become engaged advocates for a resilient local food system that equitably benefits all Rhode Islanders. Based at Galego Community Farm in Pawtucket, Youth Staff engage in crop planning and farm maintenance, a professional development series, and regular field trips, working with program staff and our partners to prepare for meaningful future careers. SCLT collaborates with our partner Groundwork RI, to deliver this impactful program. GWRI builds healthier, more resilient, and more equitable urban communities in Rhode Island by improving the physical environment and creating economic opportunities for local residents through job training, employment, and social venture programs. With GWRI this summer, Youth Staff will care for trees and school gardens, conduct outreach to community residents, and learn about environmental justice.

Candidates must:

• live in Pawtucket/Central Falls
• be 14-20 years old
• work well independently and as part of a team
• be able to commit to the full program (July 6 – August 14)
• be willing to work outside, even on hot or rainy days
• have reliable transportation to program location
