ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE:
While the full salary range for the Inmate Services Technician position is $23.73 - $35.61 hourly / $49,358.40 - $74,068.80 annually,the anticipated hiring range is $25.40 - $29.66 hourly / $52,832.00 - $61,692.80 annually. Final salary is DOQ.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Inmate Services Section Supervisor, this position performs various record keeping and physical custody duties associated with the monitoring and safeguarding of inmate property and clerical duties required to intake and release inmates, process and maintain computer records and detention files.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required:
Determines property storage and packing of property based on the stability and sensitivity of the item(s), i.e., spoilage, biohazard, money, etc.
Processes inmate property releases and property intakes.
Processes notary services for inmate legal documents.
ICE and Consulate notification.
Manages Front Lobby Reception Desk to include contact with bondsmen, public, attorneys, volunteers, vendors and staff members.
Manages visitation by setting visitation hours, signing in and verifying visitors and directing visitors to the visitation area.
Coordinates, verifies and logs bond information and processes checks for court.
Restocks the laundry supplies for booking/receiving.
Maintains and reconciles inmate trust accounts and cash reports.
Uses manual and automated systems to track various types of information and sensitive documents.
Compiles data from court appearance records, returns records, and warrant pick-ups.
Maintains files and sorts various paperwork, records, and legal documents as required by assignment on daily, monthly, or annual basis.
Operates computers and standard office equipment including commonly used.
Verifies and enters information into the computer JMS from custody documents to include inmate's personal and charge information, property inventory, and court dates.
Obtains required copies of legal documents, recognizes, and understands procedures for processing legal documents.
Maintains outside agency only files to efficiently transfer inmates to their proper jurisdiction.
Identifies bond amounts with criminal statutes and bond schedules.
Completes NCIC/CCIC records checks, entries, and teletypes.
Locates, confirms and retrieves warrants.
Generates and maintains inmate detention file.
Answers telephones and provides information to external and internal customers.
Trains others as required.
Is committed to a high standard of safety laws and all the Sheriff's Office policies and procedures and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.
Maintains regular and acceptable attendance at such level as determined at the Sheriff's Office discretion.
Performs duties onsite, except those job duties that are customarily or by nature performed offsite.
Follows and supports the mission, values, organizational philosophies, operational principals, code of conduct, and policies and procedures of the Sheriff's Office.
Interacts effectively with others and exercises good judgment when dealing with people in sensitive situations.
Perform duties regularly assigned to the ISS Supervisor level in the absence of the ISS Supervisor as a temporary duty.
May be assigned other duties as necessary.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of booking/court/bonding paperwork and processes.
Skilled in conflict resolution.
Ability to operate computers and commonly used computer software programs, as well as any other standard office equipment as required by position.
Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions quickly and accurately.
Ability to recognize and use alpha and numeric arrangements quickly and accurately.
Ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
Ability to operate a computer terminal to accurately input data and maintain a high attention to detail and subtle irregularities.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Sheriff's Office staff members, the public, inmates, court officials and other law enforcement agencies.
Ability to safely operate a county vehicle in normal and adverse conditions.
Capacity for developing and/or adapting to new ideas and changing conditions.
Ability to apply sound reasoning and decision-making.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High School graduate or GED equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: No specific requirement.
OR
Any equivalent of education and experience that satisfies the requirements of the job.
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES: None.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) years of customer service to include data entry, answering phones and general accounting and/or inventory control.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to obtain Notary Public certification.
Must be able to type 25 wpm corrected.
Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license.
Must possess CPR, AED, and First Aid certification within the initial status period.
Must be able to obtain NCIC/CCIC certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position. They are included for informational purposes and are not all inclusive.
Occasionally: Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
Frequently: Activity exists between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.
Constantly: Activity exists more than 2/3 of the time.
Spends 40% of the time sitting, 50% standing and 10% walking while on the job.
Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of automated office machinery and writing utensils in addition to specific instruments associated with the position.
Frequently involved in oral and auditory interaction, enabling interpersonal communication including automated devices such as the telephone as well as interaction with inmates and public.
Frequently bends, squats, stoops, kneels, twists, balances, and reaches overhead and below waist level while performing job duties.
Occasionally lifts or carries up to 100 lbs. when moving property.
JOB-RELATED CONTACTS:
This position requires extensive communication with other individuals in the Sheriff's Office, the public, inmates, court officials, and other law enforcement agencies to ensure complex and routine procedures are followed. Information provided is generally of a critical and confidential nature and tactfulness is desirable in dealing, particularly, with the public. In this position, contact with blood, body fluids, or other medical hazards are possible; however, the member should have adequate time to take precautionary and protective measures.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment is generally not considered a standard office environment. The work environment may be stressful, loud, and chaotic during high volume activity, demanding full attention and coordination of numerous tasks simultaneously. Candidates must be available and willing to work any shifts (days, swings, graveyards) along with weekends, holidays, and overtime per day or per week as the Sheriff's Office determines is necessary or desirable to meet its needs.
BIO-HAZARD NOTICE:
This position has been determined to be an EXTREME exposure risk to "biohazards" including, but not limited to, viruses, toxins, and blood-borne pathogens, such as HIV/AIDS (human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), HBV (hepatitis B virus), and air-borne transmissions of TB (tuberculosis). Members are advised that exposure to a "biohazard" may result in severe illness and/or death. Members are required by agency policy to use protective equipment and clothing. 401(a) DEFINED BENEFIT RETIREMENT PLAN:
Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office employees participate in a mandatory defined benefit program designed to help employees establish a source of income for retirement years. Through the Plan, eligible employees must set aside 9.00 percent, which is subject to change in the coming years, on a pretax basis of which the County matches at 9.75%. The County also contributes 6.2% to Social Security.

It is the policy of the Sheriff's Office to not discuss the reasons why applicants were not selected for hire. There is no flexibility to this policy. REQUIRED EXAMINATIONS:
The screening process for any position within the Sheriff's Office may include written test(s), an oral interview, skills test(s) and/or other selection methods designed to measure applicants' ability to perform the essential functions of the job they are seeking.

Medical Examination, including a drug screen
Background Investigation - This will include, but is not limited to, contact with the applicant's former employers, associates, neighbors and other pertinent sources. Applicant's military history, school records, police records and driving record will also be investigated. All examinations are conducted by qualified/licensed individuals designated by the Sheriff's Office at the Sheriff's Office expense.
EXPECTED DURATION OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS:
Due to the nature of the application and selection process for the Sheriff's Office, applicants can reasonably expect the application process to take a significant amount of time to complete before a decision is made to hire or not to hire. Typically, it takes approximately six (6) to twelve (12) weeks from the date of application to complete the entire selection process. The length of time it takes to complete the process can vary depending on a variety of factors. Please note that this is an estimated duration of the selection process.
WORK SCHEDULES:
Employees are required to work the time periods and/or shifts, rotational and/or stationary, and location assignment, consistent with the needs of the Sheriff's Office.
DUTY ASSIGNMENTS:
All applicants hired by the Sheriff serve at the pleasure of the Sheriff of Arapahoe County and may be assigned to any of the agencies bureaus, sections or units at the discretion of the Sheriff or his duly appointed representative. Employment is at the will and pleasure of the Sheriff, per Colorado State Statute: 30-10-506. Written policies and other manuals do not alter the at will status of employment.

INITIAL STATUS PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT:
Successful applicants are subject to an initial status period of employment. This initial status period is twelve (12) months for all positions. The initial status period is regarded as part of the applicant's examination process and will be utilized for purposes of employee evaluation, training and adjustment to the demands of the profession. New employees, who fail to perform satisfactorily during the period, may be separated from the Sheriff's Office, depending on the circumstance of each case.
POLICY ON REAPPLICATION:
Applicants who failed a written test may reapply and retest no sooner than three (3) or six (6) months (position dependent) from the date they took the written test. Applicants who failed an interview may reapply and retest no sooner that six (6) months from the date they received notification of non-selection. All other applicants who are disqualified can reapply with the Sheriff's Office no sooner than one (1) year from the date of notification of non-selection.
