About the Position Riverside University Health System-Medical Center (RUHS-MC) has two Clinical Pharmacist I - PER DIEM opportunities within the Emergency Department Pharmacy of the main medical center campus in Moreno Valley, CA. The Clinical Pharmacist I - Per Diem oversees pharmacy workflow to ensure accurate, timely, and safe dispensing and distribution of medications. Incumbents monitor drug therapy, adjust doses based on individual patient parameters, interface with medical staff on issues related to drug therapy, and promote the cost‑effective and appropriate utilization of pharmaceuticals. This role also entails precepting within the RUHS PGY‑2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy residency program. Ideal Candidates Will Have Completion of PG‑Y2 Emergency Medicine Residency and/or hold board certification in Emergency Medicine Pharmacy. Advanced clinical knowledge of medications used in emergency care. Rapid decision‑making skills and the ability to work effectively in high‑pressure environments. Effective communication skills. Work Schedules 12‑hour shifts, 6:00 am – 6:30 pm, with a minimum of 2 shifts every 6 weeks. 12‑hour shifts, 6:00 pm – 6:30 am, with a minimum 3 shifts per pay period. Weekends and holidays may be required for coverage. Essential Duties Function as a dispensing pharmacist in the outpatient and/or inpatient setting; provide answers to distributive and clinical questions; compound prescriptions and special orders as needed; perform pharmacokinetic analyses of selected medications with narrow therapeutic ranges. Check in/out controlled substances correctly and maintain accurate documentation; review medication utilization; monitor drug therapy; review and check orders from clinics and other outside entities. Maintain controlled substance accountability: participate in receipt, dispensing and distribution of controlled substances; ensure inventories are accurate; may practice in other non‑distribution roles based on training, experience and needs. Work with nurses, physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient care; provide medication consultation to providers and patients. Assist in developing and implementing new policies and procedures; prepare and conduct formal and informal presentations to healthcare providers; participate in training programs and performance‑improvement activities as required. Participate in and maintain quality assurance records; assist in inventory maintenance. Work with medical center staff to ensure a cooperative work environment and conduct supervisory projects pertinent to the pharmacy area. Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from a School of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm. D.). Experience: One year of pharmacy residency preferred. Knowledge: Federal, Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission and DHS laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to patient care and dispensing of legend and non‑legend pharmaceuticals and poisons; good customer service; professional standards and practices. Ability: Provide quality pharmaceutical care; communicate clearly and effectively; work cooperatively with staff and healthcare providers; organize and manage routine and new responsibilities; retrieve and process patient and medication information; supervise and direct the work of supportive pharmacy personnel. License or Certificate: Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Licentiate in Pharmacy issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy and fulfillment of continuing‑education requirements. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (must be obtained within 30 days of hire). Preferred: Specialty board certification by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) in any specialty and/or Advanced Practice Pharmacist licensure issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
