Assistant Controller

CBIZ Talent Solutions is assisting our client in their search for an Assistant Controller .


This is a fully remote position.

Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Maintain books and records across a portfolio of entities including LLCs, trusts, partnerships, foundations, and individual accounts
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and month-end close workpapers
• Assist in producing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, cash flow summaries, and entity-level reports
• Track and reconcile activity across bank accounts, investment accounts, intercompany balances, and loans
• Support accounting for real estate holdings, private investments, and charitable activities

Cash Management & Accounts Payable

• Review and process vendor payments, reimbursements, and recurring disbursements
• Perform bank reconciliations, monitor cash balances, support wire activity, and maintain payment documentation
• Manage vendor records, W-9s, approvals, and supporting documentation
• Assist with cash flow forecasting, identifying upcoming funding needs including capital calls, tax payments, and major expenditures

Tax & Compliance Coordination

• Work with outside CPA firms by gathering and organizing tax workpapers, K-1s, 1099s, and investment statements
• Track estimated tax payment schedules and assist with year-end tax reconciliations
• Maintain organized records for trusts, partnerships, real estate entities, and personal tax matters

Investment & Entity Administration

• Record contributions, distributions, management fees, capital calls, and other activity from advisor statements
• Maintain tracking schedules for alternative investments, private equity, hedge funds, and real estate
• Support entity-level reporting, intercompany reconciliations, document retention, and transaction processing

Process Improvement & Special Projects

• Identify and implement improvements to accounting workflows, documentation standards, and reporting processes
• Assist with ad hoc projects spanning real estate transactions, entity formation, estate planning, and family office operations

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• CPA license or active CPA candidacy preferred
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; background in family office, private wealth, or public accounting strongly preferred
• Solid command of general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, and month-end close
• Hands-on experience with multi-entity structures including trusts, LLCs, and partnerships
• Proficiency in Archway or comparable family office accounting software; ability to learn new systems quickly
• Advanced Excel skills with experience managing complex workbooks and large datasets
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a lean environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
