Description:
The Respiratory Care Practitioner will report to work on time and ready to work in a quiet professional manner.
Follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Provides quality care as ordered by the patient's physicians.
Responsible for the initiation of respiratory protocols and/or the evaluation of protocol steps that include all modalities of therapy.
Serves as a member of the patient care team to assess and develop care plans.
Evaluates appropriateness of respiratory care modalities and assists with discharge planning as needed.
Provides patient and family education related to medications and therapy modalities appropriate to assessed learning skills.
Participates in monitoring quality of care.
Organizes workflow to maintain a smooth transition between shifts.
Assists in the day-to-day operations of the respiratory care services through neat and accurate documentation.
Enters charges for patient billing and monitors and orders supplies and medications.
Maintains current knowledge via hospital and department communication tools.
Identifies problems and recommends ideas and solutions.
Demonstrates critical thinking skills.
Participates and provides in-service training.
Performs and completely documents cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, airway management, ventilator management, oximetry, intermittent and continuous therapy.
Takes responsibility for improving job knowledge and skills.
Performs Pulmonary Function Tests as assigned.
Demonstrates the ability to assess and evaluate respiratory care protocols and the continuation of therapy.
Follows ATS criteria in the performance of Pulmonary Function Tests.
Complies with requirements for employment as defined by the department.
Serves as a clinical resource for staff and physicians as a preceptor for new respiratory care oirentees.
Actively participates in hospital and department councils and meetings.
