Role Description The Student Support Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Oceanside, NY, responsible for providing comprehensive support services to students throughout their academic journey. In this role, the specialist meets with students individually and in groups to address academic, personal, and procedural questions, and to connect them with appropriate campus resources. Daily responsibilities include responding to student inquiries, assisting with enrollment and registration processes, coordinating workshops or information sessions, and maintaining accurate records of student interactions and referrals. The specialist collaborates closely with faculty, advisors, and administrative offices to identify student needs, monitor progress, and support retention and success initiatives. This position also participates in outreach efforts, contributes to continuous improvement of support programs, and ensures that all services are delivered in a respectful, inclusive, and student-centered manner. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong student advising and support skills, including experience in counseling, case management, or academic support services. Candidates should possess skills in communication, such as clear written and verbal communication, active listening, and the ability to explain policies and procedures effectively. Candidates should possess organizational and administrative skills, including accurate recordkeeping, time management, and attention to detail in managing multiple student cases. Candidates should possess collaboration and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and external partners to coordinate student services. Candidates should possess problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to assess student needs and provide appropriate guidance or referrals. Relevant skills and qualifications that would be beneficial include experience in higher education or student affairs, familiarity with university policies and FERPA regulations, and proficiency with student information systems or CRM tools.
