PRN Pharmacist -(1-2) 8hr shifts per week on weekdays

PRN Pharmacist (1-2 8-hour shifts per week) An experienced pharmacist is needed to fill orders for parenteral and enteral medications, monitor patient drug therapies, provide drug information, and supervise support personnel. The pharmacist will be responsible for the procurement, storage, dispensing, and management of all legend and non-legend drugs for the hospital. Location North Carolina Specialty Hospital, 3916 Ben Franklin Blvd, Durham, NC 27704, USA Job Summary Under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, this position fills medication orders, monitors therapies, provides drug information, and oversees support staff while maintaining accurate records. Responsibilities Prepare and dispense medication orders per physician requests, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies and protocols. Maintain complete and accurate patient medication profiles, compound medications, and issue controlled substances as required by law. Ensure safe, appropriate, cost‑effective medication therapies by monitoring regimens for contraindications, interactions, allergies, and appropriate dosing. Assist with pharmacokinetics consults and drug dosing per organizational protocol, review culture and susceptibility data for antibiotic appropriateness, and recommend changes. Provide drug information to patients and families, document clinical activities and interventions, and participate in quality improvement activities. Supervise pharmacy support personnel, verify daily activities of technicians, and participate in performance appraisals. Conduct monthly inspections of medication storage areas, identify and replace outdated drugs, and maintain a clean, organized pharmacy environment. Maintain current pharmacist license, attend orientation, education, and training programs, and complete competence assessments. Interpret and communicate department policies and procedures to staff, patients, and families. Assist in cost containment initiatives and adhere to hospital policies, including compliance, diversity, and confidentiality. Promote customer service and continuous quality improvement in daily operations. Licensure, Education & Experience Accredited School of Pharmacy graduate with a B.S. Pharmacy degree. One year of experience as a pharmacist in a hospital setting. Current North Carolina state license as a Registered Pharmacist. Current, active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Qualifications Team player – works well as a member of a group.
