Deputy Sheriff

Responsibilities Operate a patrol vehicle to observe for traffic law violations, suspicious activities or persons, and disturbances of law and order; respond to radio dispatches and answer calls and complaints. Serve warrants, summons, subpoenas, civil process papers and make arrests, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints. Enforce traffic laws; issue citations for traffic violations; perform radar enforcement, DUI checks, traffic control, motorist assists, etc. Assist with criminal investigations by preserving, recording and presenting evidence, interviewing victims and witnesses, and testifying in court. Transport prisoners, detainees, mental patients, juveniles, etc. to appointments, court, etc. as assigned; monitor and maintain inmates in the custody of the Sheriff's department. Prepare and maintain a variety of records and files and prepare various reports. Assist other law enforcement officers and agencies on various tasks. Qualifications General knowledge of law enforcement methods, practices and procedures; thorough knowledge of the Code of North Carolina; thorough knowledge of laws, rules and regulations relating to courts and criminal justice; general knowledge of the geography of the County and location of important buildings; general knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Sheriff's office; skill in the use of firearms, public safety equipment and motor vehicles; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to prepare clear comprehensive reports; ability to deal courteously, firmly and tactfully with the public; ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action; ability to establish and maintain working relationships with supervisors, associates and the general public. High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in law enforcement, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. #J-18808-Ljbffr
