Job Title:  Medical Director (On-Site Primary Care Physician)\n

\nSchedule:  40 Hours: Mon-Fri OR 4x10s\n
\n
\nJob Responsibilities:\n
\n
\nOversee and supervise all on-site medical services program\n
\nMaintain NCCHC accreditation for on-site medical services program\n
\nEstablish utilization management program for review of on-site services and off-site referrals\n
\nReview initial health assessment findings and identify problems\n
\nInitiate therapy and immunizations when appropriate\n
\nEstablish policies for initial inmate assessments (acceptable to NSO)\n
\nEstablish policies for non-emergency medical treatment (sick call)\n
\nReview all sick call slips within eight (8) hours\n
\nSchedule inmates for medical evaluation within 24 hours (weekdays) or 72 hours (weekends)\n
\nRespond immediately to any area of jail for emergency medical requests\n
\nProvide first aid and CPR services on-site\n
\nIdentify preferred providers for off-site emergency services\n
\nProvide quarterly emergency medical response drills\n
\nProvide on-site specialty clinics (Optometry 8 hrs/mo, Podiatry 8 hrs/mo, PT/OT 8 hrs/mo, OB/GYN 8 hrs/mo, ENT 4 hrs/mo)\n
\nProvide on-site hemodialysis services as ordered\n
\nProvide necessary laboratory tests as ordered\n
\nProvide necessary radiological studies as ordered\n
\nEstablish policies for referring inmates for on-site, telehealth and off-site treatment\n
\nGenerate Request for Consultation forms for off-site services\n
\nProvide medical information and payments to preferred providers (pay within 30 days)\n
\nEstablish policies for chronic illness and infectious disease care\n
\nNotify Officer in Charge of Health Services of infectious disease diagnoses\n
\nProvide TB surveillance program\n
\nProvide Hepatitis C surveillance and treatment program\n
\nProvide mental health services including assessment of mentally ill and suicidal/homicidal inmates\n
\nEnsure health care staff trained on symptoms and treatment of suicidal/homicidal inmates\n
\nEstablish policies for on-site treatment and referral of suicidal/homicidal inmates\n
\nProvide dental care program under licensed dentist\n
\nProvide eye examinations and corrective lenses when medically necessary\n
\nCooperate with food service contractor for medically necessary clinical diets\n
\nDesign and provide ongoing health education program to inmates\n
\nConduct annual physicals on inmates incarcerated over one year\n
\nProvide and use EHR system compliant with HIPAA and HITECH\n
\nProvide access and transfer of data to NSO upon termination at no cost\n
\nMaintain and retain complete standardized medical records\n
\nRespond in writing to medical grievances within 48 hours\n
\nRespond to emergency medical grievances immediately\n
\nFollow NSO policies for inmate co-payments\n
\nComplete cost recovery forms and witness inmate signatures\n
\nProvide four emergency response/disaster boxes\n
\nProvide monthly inventory and re-stocking of supplies\n
\nProvide staffing per Minimum Daily Staffing plan (Attachment N)\n
\nNotify Officer in Charge of Health Services of any lapse or expiration of licensure for staff\n
\nVerify Virginia licensure of health care providers prior to hiring\n
\nProvide copy of license to NSO prior to hiring\n
\nEnsure no health care provider hired has had adverse action by any licensing board\n
\nRemove and dispose of medical hazardous waste\n
\nProvide QI program and form QI committee (meet quarterly)\n
\nParticipate in quarterly Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) meetings\n
\nSubmit to periodic records review by NSO's quality assurance contractor\n
\n
