Offered benefits dependent upon employee eligibility and criteria Job Description Purpose of Job: Improve the overall health of the communities we serve by assisting with patient care in medical clinics through the performance of the following duties: Essential Duties And Responsibilities Performs phlebotomy and laboratory procedures as directed. Collects specimens according to established procedures. Explains the process of drawing blood clearly to the patient. Processes specimens including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order. Sends blood samples to testing laboratories. Researches test/client information and confirms and verifies all written and electronic orders. Updates patient records. Maintains an organized and clean work area based on health and safety regulations and the guidelines of the clinic. Cleans, prepares, and sterilizes equipment. Performs other duties as assigned, including supporting the CHAS Health Mission and Core Values. Qualifications Education/Experience: Completion of an approved medical assistant-phlebotomist training program and a current Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification issued by Washington State Department of Health. Experience with pediatric patients preferred. Skills: Excellent customer service. Professional oral and written communication skills required. Compassion for patients required. Must be able to work well in a team environment. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to track multiple tasks to completion simultaneously a must. Basic computer user skills required. Medical terminology and accurate spelling required. BLS (CPR/AED) required. Valid drivers’ license and insurance required. Commitment to supporting a safe and respectful environment is required. Physical Demands Required to stand, sit and be mobile up to one-third of the time. Required to use hands to finger, handle or feel over two-thirds of the time, while reaching with hands and arms occurs one-third of the day. Required to read from text and computer screen over two-thirds of the time. Climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling or crouching occurs less than one-third of the time. Communicating occurs constantly throughout the day. Lifting occurs about half the time up to 10 lbs. and less than one-third of the day from 25-40 lbs. Rarely is there a need to lift more than 41 lbs.
